Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

The kid looking at him in the back has the expression, "Dude sweet green risers, breh. I ride brakeless too!"

Not to mention what looks like a price tag hanging from the hbs. Compared to Chicago's Richard Daily this guy's a poseur. RD's put in miles of bike lanes, a 3 ft rule and actually commutes to work by bike. But, any pub's better than no pub, I suppose.

I doubt its a price tag. Probably some thing he was holding. No store would sell a purple kilo tt with front b43 and green risers.

That's not a price tag. Looks like it could either be a notebook a coloring book or an owners manual.

On closer inspection you guys are right. It's something he's holding in his hand...is he up for re-election? A brochure would make sense. Anyway, he's on a fixie even if it is a photo-op. Now back it up by proposing some bike lane construction.

I'm hoping it's a coloring book.

Well, he has started riding on his own. I do believe he was part of setting up Ciclavia over here

Eh, too bad he almost got hit by a taxi. Frrrukin taxi drivers! Of course all the news is littered with bicycle hate in the comments section.

He looks like Adrian Monk. (Tony Shalhoub)

It looks like he's going like maybe 3 mph. Don't think stopping is too much of a problem. Needs a front errorspok to look really hip.

He's gonna be pretty embarrassed when he finds out that the demographic he's pandering to isn't actually old enough to vote.

Don't know if anyone has heard but he was recently riding his bike in LA and was hit by a car. Guess someone shouldn't be riding fixed. I'll try and find the LA Times article.

maybe what the daily breeze meant was "causing the mayor to do a nutz to stem skidz" since he's riding brakeless

I really doubt the Kilo he is pictured with is his bike. Chances are it was just some kids bike and he wanted to give it a shot. He most likely crashed on his own bike.
