Why won't it go in

So today I was pumping up my front tire, which has a valve extender to make the 42mm tube fit out my h+son rims. I have had the tube a few months and I guess it couldn't handle it anymore and the valve snapped off while pumping (mini pump, no hose).

Not a huge deal. I just go grab my brothers front wheel to borrow it for a few hours. I go to slide it on, and it won't fit into my fork ends. I set the bike right side up again and lean on the handle bars, and nothing. I go to pull it off and it's a bit stuck. Put little thread groves in the aluminum fork end even.

I have a 2009 Leader 725tr frame, and the wheel was a very standard ebay complete rims, tubes tires set at $150 type of deal. I've never heard of a standard "track" from axel not fitting into a standard "track" fork end.
(looked on ebay real quick, it's this wheel set: here)

Take a close look at the axle and your fork. Notice that your fork end is more like an elongated rectangle shape. The axle of your wheel has flat areas on it that interrupt the threading. You're supposed to line it up so that the axle goes in only one way.

Leaning on it? Not a good idea. Way to go!

I've been cycling for a few years now, I'm not that stupid. The axel has no flat areas. Not on the dura-ace hub I normally ride, nor on my brothers cheapo front wheel. I know what your talking about, but neither axel is flat in any part

You have 2 options, file flats in the axle or file out the dropouts, take some measurements to see how much matieral you have to take off, based on the quality/cost of the frame v wheelset I'd grind down the axle, or try and find one machined that way, your lbs may have one.

sheesh, those are my only 2 options? I was just trying to borrow the wheel until i bought a new tube for my own, so extreme.
I just wanted to know if it was common for front axles to not fit into fork ends or if one of either my fork ends or the front axle was unusual. I'm on my way to get a new tube now though, so don't care that much

It is common for older forks, many people had to filed their fork ends to fit their modern wheels.

It's a 2009 leader fork, not exactly old. Probably just cause the front wheel was cheap like I said.

a buddy couldn't get the front wheel off his gutterball into the dropouts of the fork of a langster. i don't know for sure but i think the langster also comes with wheels with track nuts (as opposed to QRs), but the dropout on the langster fork was too small. had to either file the dropout wider, or put a road front wheel on the fork. he did the latter.
