Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Which Bike Is The Best Value?

So, I have a 10% off coupon to my LBS, making a lot of bikes' prices a lot more reasonable.
Here are the bikes I'm looking at and their reduced prices:

Redline 925 - $486
Jamis Beatnik - $540
Kona Paddy Wagon - $585
Schwinn Madison - $540
SE Lager - $585
KHS Flite 100 - $540

Which bike do you think is the best value?

If you have access to try out all of those bikes, then you should ride each one of them to see which one you like the most.

All of them seem over priced...

Which ever is most comfortable...then I would personally steer MYSLELF towards the Maddy and Beatnik. Unless its the newest Maddy with the sloping TT. I don't like that one. Ewwy. If it is substitute the Redline.

Ya I just bought an 2009 KHS Flite brand new for $300 with shipping it's $330 def look around, go ride at LBS and then look for deals online, I was almost gunna get an IRO for $399 but a friend has the KHS hook up so I went that route, I rode a Specialized Langster but a little small and LBS wanted $600, a Madison for $450 which I liked (except for the graphics/weight) and then I got the deal and rode that and it's great

Well, plunking down cash & walking them out of the LBS, the least expensive one is the best value, components being a push. They all should be ride-able and brand new and best value would be lowest cost for same hardware. The Redline 925 being $ 54 less. Like Vixtor indicated, on-line you should be able to beat the 10% discount, even enough to get the wheels trued & adjustments to the build done, while still having enough for Starbucks.

Stay at the LBS. They're people. You build a relationship with them and it will pay off in the end when you really need something. Support your LBS.

I've always liked the setup of the Kona Paddy Wagon, seems like a good commuting bike. Front and rear brakes, drops, chainguard. It's not trying to be a track bike or a sweet fixie, just a fixed gear road bike. Anyone know if there's enough clearance/eyelets for full fenders?

Reminds me of the Cadillac commercial: "When you turn on your car does it return the favor?" Whichever bike from your list does that best is clearly the best value.

i would rather have an IRO mark V for 400 and use the remainder for an ebayed front brake and perhaps a different saddle (turbo)

I would also get the one you like the most.

Lager is waaaay overpriced; you can get the '09 version for ~$350 on Jenson. And I'm a fan of my Redline, which comes with fenders, wide tire clearance, and support for racks, so it's definitely a good, practical bike. I probably wouldn't pay $486 for it (got it used for $316), but that's just personal preference.

Can't speak much for the other bikes.
