Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? Stolen Bike..what the ****

So ive been riding single speed for the past ****ing 4 months, and no mishaps. No one stole my bike. Been locking it up in the same ****ing places every day for 4 months as a single speed.

Finally. Finally when I get my lockring and cog tightened, when after 4 months I am able to ride fixed. THE FIRST DAY I RIDE FIXED IN 4 MONTHS..............my bike gets stolen. Yes it was locked. Smashed the lock, cut the second lock (the Bell wire-type lock), and stole it.

Why?

and then at the beginning of the year, i go fixed, and the first day after a month......flat tire. NEVER HAPPENED when i was riding ss, and it wasn't becuase of skidding.

what the ****.

It was a windsor Hour. Stock except chain and tire. =[

wow that's really crappy. i can't imagine if that happened to me.

just go through the usual routes to try to get your bike back. other people might be able to help you with suggestions better than i can.

^haha yeeeah lol. Im just kinda bummed out. I feel so crippled and immobile now.

Ironically, the bike cost $300- not to long ago, I pirated software and downloaded it illegally........and it cost $300. very, very ironic. And maybe, its God's way of telling me not to be stupid and to ride with brakes.

Almost seems like the thief was targeting fixed gears. Otherwise, as soon as they jumped on to ride away they'd end up going over the bars when they tried to coast or think that something was broken because it didn't ride like a normal bike.

Still $hitty. Good luck getting it back.

bummer. what kinda lock was the primary lock, and was it left overnight or was it a broad-daylight deal?

also, no offense, but weird that they would steal a stock windsor, but not the mountain bike. lame thieves that just canvass an area and take anything they can would (id assume) grab the mountain bike too, if they're just going to turn and flip everything on craigslist or whatever. a thief that knows their stuff would most likely not grab a stock windsor...

Not really, a friend had his Electra stolen, it was the straight 8 model. It was locked up to 2 other bikes for a couple of weeks at the same bike rack and they left both of the other bikes. His gf's bike, also an Electra, a white "Betty" model was left unlocked with the other bike for a few hours until they discovered the theft had occurred walking the dog that AM.

nope, not my intention at all, picking on anyone ? But can't wait to see what the rest of the peanut gallery has to say ?

Who knows what lurks in the minds and hearts of a bike thief ?

I'll keep an eye out too; mind posting the specs when it was stolen?

Out of security curiosity what was the lock that was smashed?

Nothing shown up on craigslist yet, and it was stolen on the 23rd of this month (August)...hmm.....15t cog, 48t chainring and white chain...hella messy....still has road grime on the drive side of the bike, with an "I <3 SF Symphony" sticker on the head tube where the badge should be at.

Thanks again guys. lol.

The lock......well.....lets just say I should have known better. It wasn't a padlock ftw tho. IM not THAT stupid =p but im still pretty stupid./

Im going on a long ride tommrow on my mt bike. Carrying two baseball bats with me =]. Keeping the sharpest eye i can ever keep!

Assault with a deadly weapon is much more severe than the theft of a bicycle, so I wouldn't go that route. Do you have the serial number on hand and was there something unique on the bike? While it doesn't quench your taste for revenge, going that route is a much more smarter route than going vigilante. Also going to the local shops in the area with that info will help as well. Also check ebay and craigslist and any local pawn shops.

I hope you find your bike.

An eye for an eye will make us all blind.

I do hate bike thieves but revenge is not the solution, matter of fact, revenge is never the solution.

One's common conception of elementary "revenge" is furthest from the mind of a righteous warrior.

Does that mean that the solution is also sometimes to kick the aliens' butts, so that they don't invade anymore? Or to dress up in a silly costume and go out at night and play hero?

Ya, I ended up on here looking for a new bike after my sweet conversion got stolen, I had it for about 4 years, it was locked with a big cable in front of a gym right in front of the entrance to the gym that has glass doors, at 5pm! Totally brazen theif, looked on craigslist, pawn shops, etc, it was unique,62cm, 42-16 fixed, bullhorns, red, black alex rims, I'm getting a new bike this week (it's being shipped) but coming out of the gym to see my cable sitting on the ground, I run a lot too (where I live there's a bike path on the beach, where I had two beach cruisers stolen while surfing), and I always look for people cutting locks so I can do a citizens arrest, no luck so far, it sucks
