The Great Deal / Sale Thread

Painfully average.
Anyone with knowledge on forks want to help me out maybe? How good is this fork? Some guy is selling it for 50 bucks, I might pick it up if it's a sick deal. From davis fixed: 1 1/8" Straight Bladed Carbon Orbea fork

It's off an Orbea, it's off a year-old Onix, which was a 2600+ Racing bike. Unless there is something structurally or aesthetically wrong with the fork by use, the fork should be great. Having ridden an Orbea, I can say I wasn't scared to break it, but I'm talking about a bike from 2004 (it's still ridden professionally [not by me, obviously]).
For 50 bucks, that's a stellar deal in my book. Just make sure it's in good shape, and that the steer-tube is long enough for you!

Now all I need to think about before buying it is, should I really spend 50 bucks when I don't really have the money, and will it look good/be worth the repaint to put it on my future red Leader 722TS. lol

If $50 is outside of your "impulse purchase" range, and you intend to put it on a Leader, then you probably don't need the fork.

Sole Bikes $225.
https://www.gilt.com/sale/men/sol-bicycles
I've never heard of them...looking at the specs I'd say they're comparable to the Draft or something...Hi-ten frame and fork...
They look a little better than the drafts tho.

Is it that the fork deserves better than being put on a Leader or something? What's the difference if it really is such a good deal like leed says it is?

Elaborate a little? I don't know what impulse purchase means and you make it sound like I don't deserve the fork or something .. lol

I would put it on a Leader (or any other frame) and ball the **** out. I also tend not to give a **** at all whether my components match or not, so you might take that into consideration.
An "impulse purchase" is something that you don't have to think about whether you "have the money for it". You just do it on impulse. Like if you're walking by a vending machine and you really want a root beer, spending $0.75 is an impulse purchase.
Depending on how much extra money you have laying around, the threshold for an "impulse purchase" is different for everyone. If $50 is a big expenditure for you, then make sure it's something you need and is appropriate for how you're gonna use it.
If you can swing the $50 then you should go for it, but don't break the piggy bank just to buy a sweet carbon fork you might not actually need.

Hmmmmmm... I see...
Well the thing is, haha.. If I bought the Leader frame, I wouldn't have to spend 100+ on the fork also. I could just pop a 50 for this (i'm guessing better) one. What would you recommend? I don't mind color that much. I'm getting that damn red 722ts, haha.
But then again, if avner wants it I'm sure he could use it more than me.

I've got a matte black leader 725 in desperate need of a fork, and money available...If you'd be willing to do it, and it has enough steer tube available I'm really interested!

also, I asked him about him about how much steerer tube is left, so for now all you can do is probably just try to gauge it from the picture.

frame looks super small so i'm not super hopeful. I've got a 58CM which has a 180 HT i believe...and I like a bit of height on my bars but lets see how this goes. and yeah of course i'd cover shipping if you'd be willing to do this

For sure. I'm just waiting for the guy to respond on davisfixed. he said he's out of town till summer, and it's at his sisters place or something. so we'll see what he says about how much length is left.

Alright, i'm not in a super big rush either. Saving money to complete this build. Keep finding new, sexy things that I want which, are affordable enough for my build..this fork being one of them.

Just so you know, the seller says it came of a 57CM frame so it should be long enough. But if you don't want it I'm going to jump on it. Black Leader 725 also (or at least planning on one).

For $5 the box of crap netted me:
Shimano Flightdeck (old) computer
Heart Rate Monitor (Old) Giant
Saddle bag
Frame bag
Jagwire
Shimano MTB shifter
Jagwire break cable.
The stuff I'm keeping is worth $5. =)

Headset wrench
threadless stem
left brake lever
bunch of red brass nipples
rand parts from a threadless headset
I think it was worth it just for the surprise. Also, the stem, heart rate monitor, frame bag and wrench will be legitimately useful
p.s. did the heart rate monitor package look like its NOS from 93? That made me laugh my ass off

Timbuk 2 Messenger backpacks are on closeout from REI.com for 39.99 from 90.00. Also, you can take another 20% off any single item in your cart so that takes it down to 31.00. Great deal in my book.
