Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Modern version of an Eaton's Glider?

Hey guys, long time no talk. I'm in the market for a new bike, and wanted to get something a bit more relaxed than my current bike. I've always loved the look of Eaton's Gliders, and was wondering if there were any similar modern, reasonably priced bikes that are available in Canada. Strictly for commuting, and perhaps 90km rides to visit my girlfriend when she is at school, so wider tires are an amenity as much of that route is on farm roads.

I was considering getting a Kona Major One and throwing promenade bars on it to avoid buying an older steel frame, but that is a little bit out of my price range right now, unfortunately. Other options I considered were the Batavus-style Dutch bikes, but I found them to be truely clunky to ride, no matter which brand I tried. Any ideas? Small picture of an Eaton's Glider included, thanks Google!

Hi Kayce, thanks for the reply. I've already tried the One Way and ruled it out, it's out of my price range. I'm looking at sub-$600, the One Way was at $850 and $825 at the two stores I checked.
