Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Which Saddles Do / Don't You Like?

What are some of your favourite saddles...what are some of the worst?
I know some of you are probably still looking for your favourite saddle, myself included.

So far...I haven't found a saddle I absolutely love.
Here's a list of my recent saddles...

Selle Italia SL
Terry FLX
Fizik Nisene

I think I like the FLX and Fizik the most.

What about you?

i currently ride a kashimax aero and its probably one of the comfiest seats ive owned.

i used to ride a selle italia turbo re-issue but that seat was hard as a rock!

kashimax saddles are the worst. replacing mine with a rolls soon.

That's a pretty standard seatpost size, how did it screw you over?

if weight is a factor, I love The Fizik Aliente. If I am not concerned about weight, I prefer the Brooks B-17.

I have Specialized Phenom saddles on all of my bikes. I can spend hours and hours on them (no padded shorts) without discomfort. Love them so.

Worst saddle ever? The mid-evil torture device that came stock on the Kilo.

If you're in the bay area I can let you try mines.

& my 27.2 raceface has a 30mm rail, which isn't fitting my super old rolls. New excuse to get another thomson.

it's machined from a single piece of aluminum so it looks nice and is lighter and stronger than something it's style/lightness. it's also a superior clamp design that is infinitely adjustable(virtually) and strong.

but mainly, it looks nice.

as for saddles... i've tried a lot. turbo is most comfortable for me. i have tried slr, flite, aspide, ponza, pave` and a few random ones. the ponza and pave` are the worst.

Well, I wouldn't buy a thomson new - they're pricey. I bought my masterpiece new for 130 and no, it was definitely not worth it and I wasn't planning on getting another one. However, the fact that I can get a used elite 27.2 from a friend for 40 dollars is good enough for me.

I haven't tried too many saddles other than maybe quick tests on friends' bikes. So far though, I really love my Charge Spoon. It's very firm, but not to the point of uncomfortable. Definitely worth the $28!

I'm getting along fine with my Turbo.

though I'm thinking I'd like to try an Arione some day.

Not sure how far in the distant future that'll be. Turbo's working alright.

I've liked the Fizik Arione for years. I've got one on my road bike and I rode it on my track racing bike for a long time.

I have a Fizik Antares on my track racing bike because it's got a shorter nose that helps my bike comply with USA Cycling and UCI rules. The Antares isn't as comfortable as the Arione.

Honorable mention is the Cobb Cycling V-Flow series. I rode the V-Flow Max for a while (still have it). It's butt ugly but feels like sitting on a nice leather reclining chair. Great for bumpy rides. Excellent clearance for the perineum (the area in men that gets all of the pressure). It's purely function over form.

I don't like any saddles. My couch is much more comfortable.

With that being said, if I HAD to sit on a saddle instead, I'd choose the Brooks B17.

Currently on my second week with the Charge Bucket. No complaints, very nice.

Had the Selle Italia Intiale, which is the utmost bottom of the barrel SI saddle, and it showed.

The "Velo" or whatever that came on the Motobecane Track was garbage, unsurprisingly.

I'm in love with both of my Brooks saddles (B-17 narrow and Team Pro). To me, Brooks makes a saddle. Most other companies make seats. There's a difference. I'm also quite fond of the Turbo, Kashimax Aero and Leader Cosmic.

I absolutely hated my San Marco Regal aside from how it looked. I also loathe the Fizik Arione and San Marco Ponza.
