Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Are you sure you aren't confusing BF and Tarck?

That forum sucks. I used to lurk there every now and again but don't even bother anymore.

Tarckbike was started a few years ago because the BF mods decided to clean up BFSSFG. The mods overreacted and basically turned into nazis. They banned a lot of people and pissed a lot of other people off. Somebody started tarckbike in response, and a large number of users went over to tarckbike, including myself and a lot of others. For a time, the BF mods tried to cover up the whole fiasco by heavily editing threads, locking and deleting others, and banning the word tarck and links to tarckbike. Tarckbike seemed promising at first because of the freedom from the gestapo BF Mods, and it was interesting for a while, because most of the non-noobs went over there, however, as things cooled down at BFSSFG, most of the people actually interested in discussing bikes have come back here or moved on to somewhere else and nothing really interesting is left at tarckbike except a bunch of irrelevant nonsense.

Wow! That place rocks!
I just checked it out. The swearing and generally poor social courtesy reminds me of what living in South Park may be like.
I'd hit it. Warts and all. But I wouldn't stay the night, nor call the next day.

its basically just a circle jerk for over opinionated fixed gear bike nerds with chips on their collective shoulders.

i thought it would be cool to check the forum out since at one point this forum was getting uber nazi-modded but it was basically the extreme opposite where everyone on there immediately hates on anyone new and its just the same dozen of people internet clique-ing.

i find this forum nowadays to be a happy medium between the two. yay for scrod as mod....as i like to refer to as....SCRMOD

That is an excellent summary.

It's pretty much a snarky forum very loosely related to bikes. There may be *some* small drips of information and help, but it's contained in an overwhelming tide of bullsh*t.

The most exciting part of tarkbike was reading about all of the drama between here and there as they were getting it set up. After that, I lost interest.

My local forum is halfway between tarck and BF. Everyone trying to out tough guy one another or out ironic each other.

The sad thing is there is a good amount of knowledge being wasted. BF is the place that keeps "knowledge" ahead of street cred thankfully.

Sorry folks, I don't think that it would be productive to have a thread like this. It's not too polite to bash another forum.
