Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? New Orleans: anyone want to loan a bike? (long shot, I know)

I'm coming to New Orleans for a convention next week. I was hoping to bring one of my bikes, but sadly it's out of my budget to fly with a bike. I've done this once before, when I was in DC. A BF member loaned me a bike to use while in town, and it worked out great. I've also loaned out one of my bikes to a guy who came through town a few years ago.

I'll take care of your bike as if it were my own, and even bring my own lock. I just need a way to get around town from 9/22-26. I'm 33, married with a 2 year old daughter. If you're ever in the Portland, OR area I'm happy to return the favor. I'm 6'1" and can ride anything from a 57 to a 61.

Thanks, in advance.

I dont know if this helps but google New Orleans Bike Rentals and you will get a bunch of results. They also have a Nola bike tour.

Ship it FedEx! If you pack it tight enough (careful though), you can get shipping down to 25-30 dollars one way FedEx Ground, depending on how far you are shipping. I know you're only there for 4 days, but, in my opinion, it's worth it (I do this when I fly to Chicago from Raleigh, NC). Shipping time from here to Chicago is about 2-3 days.

When I flew Frontier, they only charged me $50 to check a bike as luggage.

man if I lived there I would certainly loan you one of mine, good luck! With the money you spend if you had to rent one you should just ship your bike down.

Yes, be careful. I have scars from when I visited Nola on New Years with my bike.

no. I hit a bump while going about 20mph, my front wheel was pushed up into the air and turned to the side. Time slowed down, I saw I was going to eat **** so I unclipped and jumped off. I hit my left leg hard and tore a chunk from the skin above the left hip bone. My bike also bounced around and fell back on top of me
