Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? anyone in Olympia?

I come up to Olympia almost every weekend to see some friends who go to Evergreen.
It gets pretty boring around here. Any ideas of what to do? Meet up? I haven't biked downtown yet, my friends live pretty close.

I grew up in Olympia, and now live in Vancouver WA. I would say probably the ONLY thing to do is go downtown. Aside from that there really isn't much to do. What to do downtown? There are some cool little shops in the downtown area, and some neat little cafe's, there are some venues where you can listen to local bands play bad punk or metal haha. If I am in downtown Olympia, I will usually visit Cafe Vita, maybe Old School pizzaria, then just wander around downtown. The farmers market is pretty cool if you are into that sort of thing.

Just got back riding around the lake. Riding up that hill was killer. hah. I'm a baby. Riding here is nice though.

Oh where in Vancouver, WA do you live? I get treated pretty crappy when I'm riding in Vancouver.

I just moved to olympia to go to evergreen, seems like a great place to be on a bike. Haven't been doing too much as a matter of fact, besides watching it rain. every. day...

Yeah, some parts of Olympia can be scenic... I think I take it for granted since I lived there my whole life. You must be talking about the 4th Ave hill hah. I actually just got my first ss/fg like...a week ago (I come from BMX bikes). So I haven't done much riding. I did a little bit just around my neighborhood and to the grocery store (I live in East Vancouver), also finding the route to the 205 bridge bike path. Then today I went into Portland to the Hawthorne District which was ~31 miles round trip. I have a feeling I will do most of my riding into and around Portland, aside from maybe going to the grocery store locally. Then if I am feeling up to it, I might start commuting to school (WSUV), but its about ~12 miles 1 way, I dont know if I want to be a disgusting mess when I get to school.
So I live on the East side of Vancouver by 164th and Millplain. I actually used to live downtown and liked it a lot better...Where do you live?

I have noticed when I go back to visit Olympia, the bicycle community has grown substantially in recent years... I will be sure to bring my bike next time im up.

zigmin today has been so nice what are you talking about? haha. But after this month welcome to rain all day and month long until summer rolls around. Haven't seen any 'dirty fixed hipsters' around yet.

Vixtor there is nothing in Vancouver, WA. Except maybe downtown Vancouver. There are some nice hiking trails here but that's in battle ground and camas.

Not quite sure what street it was but it was right next to the lake I wasn't really paying attention to much. I ride a ghetto single speed set up but at least it's better than not having a bike.

I used to live in downtown vancouver until 2007. I lived right by the train tracks. Moved to east vancouver - fourth plain/131st - not sure if you know where the new 24 hour fitness is. I like the 205 bridge though i feel like it's uphill both ways. The commute to WSUV is nto that bad. I have done it before. Your body will get used to the commute and get rain gear!

Yeh I know haha today was immaculate... And the hipster thing was kind of a joke, but they're out there! You just have to look harder... What kind of rig are you riding? I've been eyeing all the bikes around wouldn't doubt I've seen yours.

I just rode to WSU-V today, but it's just a 12 mile round trip for me. Seems like there's no really nice route there from the Eastside and that hill up to campus would guarantee you'd be worn out upon arrival. I think I'd only do it if I could get gym shower access.

I haven't been there, I'm sure I can make the best out of it if I were to go.

I live in the other Vancouver, it'd be a long ride for me to go to Portland or Olympia, which I liked a lot.

Sometimes I find the commute to Clark college unbearable. I always have people yell at me for some reason - most teenagers. oh well.
