Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

coolest bike ever

don't know if you know who ross schnell is, he races bikes n' stuff. he also co-owns the shop in town.

so he comes into the shop with his new bike that trek built for him. a full suspension carbon singlespeed. this is the bike he will use to defend his title in the single speed world championship race in new zealand next week.

what a kick ass bike. it's stupid light, has cool graphics, and is just plain sick.

Y'know part of me has a knee jerk reaction against ultra high end modern bike technology, but I bet that thing is REALLY fun to ride.

I'm sure Ross is a nice guy, but I do believe that taking off a derailleur and putting on a tensioner has been done before.

I was about to ask about that. What's the advantage in this case?

No I saw that. I mean, what is the mechanical advantage over NOT having a tensioner? Why put it there?

I wouldn't be caught dead ridding that, but then again the SSWC wouldn't be caught dead letting me race, so I'm going to shut up.
