EDIT: forgot to mention: it does seem like the crank swap was kind of a sidegrade... being new, maybe you should keep this thread alive when you're thinking about other changes so that you don't burn money on equivalent parts...

I guess this is more of a replacement. I ended up stripping both cranks arms with my amature pedal installation skills. The LBS showed me how to properly install them.

i forget...which side is reverse threaded? the drive train side?

No I put them on the correct sides. But instead of tightening them by hand I tightened them completely by wrench and cross threaded both pedals. My left pedal fell out mid ride and the right one pulled right out when I got home.
