Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Brake calipers; is this an upgrade or just a equal replacement?

So I just found an older set of shimano 105 brake calipers at the bottom of one of spare parts boxes and I'm thinking about using the front to replace my current front tektro R539. Would this be an upgrade or just an equal replacement? (before I invest the time doing it)

They are the older model that look exactly like these:

It's not that time consuming to switch calipers. Do it and report back, I'm curious if you'll actually feel a difference

the tektros you have don't seem to be the bottom-of-the-line variety, so i don't think going to older 105s will be an improvement. if you're doing it for aesthetics, then go for it. for performance, maybe look into better brake pads, or a nicer brake lever.

I'm already using kool stop pads.

Yeah I guess I'll give them a try but something tells me that the only difference I'll notice will be aesthetic.
