Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Weird things/people you come across while riding

Bum jerkin it in an alley WTF and he looked at me cruisin by..

Anyone got some crazy/odd stories? This has to be one of the most unusual things I've come across. Will add others if I think of them.

I see a guy in a gorilla suit almost every day and there used to be a dead cat in one of my bike lanes.

One day while riding home from the bike shop, a chubby young girl on a school bus - probably around 13 or 14 - flashed her boobs at me. It was rather disturbing.

yesterday leaving work I rode through a neighborhood adjacent to an elementary school at ~4:00pm, I see a girl just off the sidewalk pulling her pants down near her knees, she appeared to be wearing only lingerie top and bottom...hella body...2 dudes are there also, one is taking pics of her as she stared seductively into the camera...it took me second to process all this as I sped by...

I was riding home at night alone couple of months back, I was hammering up a hill and suddenly a person behind me was gaining on me...I thought it was strange because rarely do people ever beat me up that hill. When I saw the person past by, he was on an electric-assisted bike, which made me wonder...why ride a bike if you're going to coast up hill?

I do appreciate the fact that gt35 is taking a break from riding his high horse.

going home one day, i stopped to wait out a red light.
Semi-bald middle age man crossing the street while on his cellphone saying nervously, "But you cringe every time i touch you!!!"

------
going home one day, i stopped to wait out a red light. (yesterday actually)
A man and a woman crossed the street from opposite sides. In the middle of the street, they collided. The woman fell to the floor like an invisible person literally swept her off her feet, a bag of potato chips flying everywhere. The man stopped, stood still, and just STARED at the woman, who's trying to come back up. Once she's up, she walked away, never looking at the man she collided with or stopped to pick up her chips. The man continue staring (like seriously dead stare) at her until she crossed, then proceed to go on his own way. No one ever said anything to each other.

this was the first time that me (cyclist), pedicab and passengers, and taxi driver all looked at each other w/o anger and went wtf??

I've been seeing the same 3 dead squirrels on the road for the past two weeks, except this morning the first one was flipped upside down and shifted about a foot towards the curb.

1. I saw a guy get seriously injured/die after being hit by a car as I was riding by. Ambulance was already there. It really shook me up and I just pulled off onto the sidewalk and watched the whole thing go down for a few minutes

2. My riding buddy was doing hill repeats at 600am one morning and saw some sketchy looking dude in this really really nice part of town (1-3 million dollar houses). The sketchy looking guy asked my friend if he lived in the neighborhood. My friend said no and rode off. Then, on his next repeat, he saw that sketchy guy break into a car and steal it hahaa

Not SUPER weird, but kinda... I was riding down one of the trails in my area with my friends and some older, BIG guy on a Fixed Gear was coming down the trail the opposite way. He let go of his bars, stuck both hands in the air and did two Peace signs as we rode by...

Good stuff here. I see lots of nutty people in the city.

Once riding my FG I had some kids attempt to launch some water balloons at me. Because one got so close I quickly turned around and chased them down the alley, not sure why since I wasnt going to do anything but they all scattered into random backyards.

Yesterday, some lady was on the sidewalk, screaming at the top of her lungs "GET THE F--K AWAY FROM ME!!" but there was nobody around besides her and I was on the other side of the street.

Every single morning, I see this homeless looking guy standing next to the bike lane, in the street, staring across the road like he's looking at something in the sky, talking to himself while making arm gestures.

I see weirdos all the time in this town, it's hard to remember them all, but that's part of L.A.'s charm... heh.

I was riding around downtown one night and hear a ca-motion in a near by alley. I rode up to the alley on the opposite side of the street and saw a cop car come screeching to a halt and the officers jumped out of the car yelling at a guy. The guy jumped on a gate at the end of the alley and proceeded to get tazed wile holding onto the gate. He eventually fell off the gate and the cops ran up to him and cuffed him.

Not really weird but just one of those things you dont see to often.

When I was living in NH there was a group of people who would LARP in the park down the street from my house its a little disturbing seeing grown adults playing dress up and hitting each other with foam weapons.
