Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Can I use this Shimano Nexus crankset with derailer chain?

Pretty much like the title says, did the Nexus internal gear hub system use a different type of chain that I'm not aware of? I tried searching but couldn't find a definitive answer.

Also, are there better/cheaper choices for a crankset for an SS build?

Might want to read Sheldon's article before using Biopace. With that said, I usually prefer using old road cranks for my fixed gear. I love my Shimano 600 + Blackspire combo.

Yeah, I already have Biopace on my road bike and I love it. I want that crank for my SS mountain bike. I'm assuming it'll be fine, I just wanted to check before i dropped $40 on a crank that I won't be able to use.

It appears that Nexus cogs uses 3/32" chain, you should be good.
