Should I get a Bianchi Pista or Fuji Feather

these are the two websites, the pista is a bit cheaper http://www.cyclechoice.com/store/pro...te-Bike-White/ http://www.adrenalinebikes.com/store...oductid=112372

Welcome to SSFG.

As much as almost I hate to say it, the Pista is the better bike. The wheelset on the Feather is insanely heavy and the stem/bars completely suck. Crankset is better on the Pista too.

I'm not just talking out my ass...I work in a shop that sells Fuji so I do have quite a bit of direct experience with the Feather.

edit: Does Adrenaline have your size? I just noticed they've only got 59 and 61 in stock.

cc700 11-02-10 10:27 PM

out of those two bikes, the IRO markV is the better bike.

True.

Can you tell a difference between a 48T vs a 46T?

Thanks,

Chris

What's wrong with a pista?

Squirrelli 11-02-10 10:29 PM

Two teeth, ~3 inches of difference in gear ratio.

Nothing, really. I've been known to I make jokes about them.

I really don't think how many teeth the stock cog or chainring has should be a deciding factor when buying a bike.

CallMeIshamael 11-02-10 10:32 PM

Yeah, I noticed that recently. Guess that's why I was asking.

ubringliten 11-02-10 10:52 PM

Yeah, I was just wondering if there's any difference in cadence between those two specs with the rear hub being the same. I have a 44T right now with 16T rear and I can't get good cadence from it. Well going uphill is great with 44T, but not on flat road.

The Specialized Globe series have theirs at 42T and 17T which I think it's pretty low. Or I could totally mis-interpret this as I am fairly new to all of this.

I am planning to get a bike very soon and I need to know the mechanics. Don't want to make another mistake again.

Thanks,

Chris

Scrodzilla 11-02-10 10:55 PM

There is a very slight noticeable difference between 46t and 48t. 42/17 is a stupid ratio for a bike to come stock with, IMO. If you have any other questions and don't want to start threads about them, feel free to PM me.

Have you seen this?

Only hipsters ride Leaders to coffeehouses, and use the word uber.

Only leaders ride uber-hipsters to coffeehouses.

Pista over the feather any day. It's a better bike all around. Best handling of any tarck bic in your price range. I have a mark v too. The pista handles better. The iro looks better.

Imbroglio 11-03-10 05:35 PM

What do you guys think of this one compared to the other two in the OP?

Scrodzilla 11-03-10 05:43 PM

I think it's in a totally different league/price range and shouldn't even be mentioned in this thread.

Scrod,
what is it about the stem that you don't like? It doesn't seem all that bad to this noob. I agree about the bars though, I just got some Nitto 127 EAI's for my Feather. If I am going all out, what stem would you recommend replacing it with?

Imbroglio 11-03-10 05:51 PM

Sorry about that. It's so hard not knowing anything at all, and wanting to interact with people that are really, really knowledgeable.

Scrodzilla 11-03-10 05:53 PM

The stem may look alright but is incredibly flexy. The stock bars also flex quite a bit so pairing them with a that noodly stem feels really unstable. At 200lbs, I felt like I was going to snap one of the two right in half. Any decent Nitto quill would be an improvement.

The bars are just stupid anyway - with very little room for your hands on the tops or in the drops.

relayer66 11-04-10 01:49 AM

I got a 2010 Feather when they first came out, and the bars are different from the ones I'm seeing in the stores now. They are very wide CroMo drops with long flat tops. But they don't look right on that bike, they're more like vintage road drops.

Would any Nitto quill stem fit in the Feather's headset alright? I'm not that knowledgeable about stem sizing.

if this was tarckbike my reply would be different. (because it's pretty obvious you're being sarcastic and trollin)

but it's bike forums, so i will say:

1. thank you!
2. get the titanium bike, it's uglier and more expensive! or you could get it full polished, and add two grand on top of the cost of the frame, and it would look like a pista with a really awesome rear seatstay bridge and trackends!
