Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? Switching out B43

Hey i was a dumbass and bought a set of b43s as my first wheelset to use as a daily commuter on my fixed gear bike. Would it be worth it to spend the extra money on a lighter wheelset such as the mavic open pro?

You just worried about the extra weight? Just think of it as training, or get the open pro's.

i would like to request a bffgss photochop for use in these instances. it would have a soldier on the left, an eagle on the right, and ribbon with "support our economies" in the center, or make whatever you want.

Sell them on CL or w/e and get some more if they bug you that much, cxp22's would be a fair bit lighter than what you have...

I mean, if you like how they look and don't care about some extra weight, keep them.

If you hate them and want something else, get something else.

Alternatively, flip a coin.

My opinion? I'd keep them. I think they look cool and the weight just makes it more MANLY. AGH.

You can try the wabi wheelset, I Used to have a similar pair on my fix Gear, But then i changed to something like the b43, I really wish i would use the lighter wheelset though.

If your wheels are in good shape you can probably sell them for close to $200 to some hipster. There are silver Open Pros to Formulas on Velomine for $200.

Your buny B43 rims are nothing, NOTHING!, compared to a set of Chukkers. Rock the B43s until they fall apart or someone makes fun of them.

Awesome rims for an awesome price.

You might want to consider the CR-18s for commuting, as it has the capability to accept bigger tires.

B43s weigh more than Chukkers. In fact, I think they weigh more than anything. Like, almost twice as much as a normal set of road rims. Ridiculous.

hmm i know lighter rims improve your acceleration/ climbing but do they help your top speed or make you less tired over time on a long ride?

I do some crazy time trial on my way to work/school everyday because I'm late...

to me, commuting= short intense cycling session, doesn't matter it's 5min or 15mins, I'm tired after every commute I do...

well I couldn't imagine the weight difference would make a big difference on a 5 to 15 minute ride, be it intense or just cruising. just my two cents though.
