Use drop bars.

Yes, bullhorn bars are legal, but only in time trials. Mass start (group races) must be raced using drop bars.

This is for safety reasons. Bullhorn bars can gore people in a wreck...even an otherwise harmless wreck. That's why they are only allowed when it's a solo or team time trial.

Man i am stoked about racing on the velodrome. The new Giordana drome is going up about 90 miles away and I plan on being there for the first class. This is something I have always wanted to do. Reading all the info Carelton has put out has got me fired up to give it a go.Hope to see some of you down here and have a chance to meet and race with you. Hell yea!

Any big buildings have lots of costs to maintain. And track cycling doesnt have enough draw on its own. So most places have other sports in the infield. ADT does volleyball a lot.

Just got back from "learn to ride 2" where we did a lot of riding in packs in rotation. That was so awesome sliding in and out of a group of riders so close together on a steep track (Harry Jerome in Burnaby).

Stopping feet and pissed that I live so far from a velodrome ... T-town is a once a year pilgrimage at best. CX & road will suffice in the meantime. Anybody know what's up with the Velodrome @ LSU? I visited it once and it surrounded by a barbed wire fence ...LAME just curious I'll probably never be in Baton Rouge again anyway

I will this year, I think. Oppphhhhh. I'm scared to fall and break my collarbone again. Our velodrome is concrete.

Also, TIL: my velodrome is one of the few that doesn't bump you up to cat4 instantly after doing the beginner courses. BOO!

Also, it seems that the beginner courses are year-round so maybe I can get the classes done before the season even starts!

I mean, 12 weeks after I've broken it, isn't it more likely to break, than say 12 months from break? I'm not sure how long a "full heal" takes is more at what I'm getting at. I've been making sure to get enough Vitamin D/Calcium via some calcium pills, on top of healthier eating. You did mention that crashes on the velodrome are few and far between, compared to road racing. Is my fear of crashing unwarranted then?

Valid fear, but for a racing cyclist it is an unfortunate occupational hazard. Would've rather had break than a 3rd degree separation which 6 years later still bothers the hell out of me for one reason or the other weather depending.

I grew up skateboarding and spent the majority of my youth busting my arse as a result my bail instinct on the bike is startling at times, too many stories from pack crashes in road races to tangles with automobiles where I have emerged mostly unscathed .... however sometimes there is now way out and a serious injury is unavoidable *knock on wood* I'll probably eat shi--t on my next ride now, thanks
