Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

That's not an octalink bb. It's a hollowtec/x-type/mega-exo style where the spindle is attatched to the drive side crankarm.

Scrod, you seem to only communicate by way of visuals these days. Not complaining, as they are usually hilarious, and appropriate, to boot.

It's nothing new, always been here; however, besides the Omnomnnms, this set is the only other track crankset that uses external bottom bracket. SRM or Quarq do have 144BCD and externall bb, but it would cost you your kidneys and a liver.

Whether external bb is worth the upgrade is totally up to you.

I think he meant Andels are the only other viable external BB option. Or I could be wrong.

Just get omniums guys from bike island.... I'm pretty sure sram knows what's good for you making the slight price difference if there is any when you consider bike island doesn't charge you tax and shipping; well except for the torpedo hub anyway but I'm pretty sure whoever designed it and their website no longer works for them....

They're nearly the same price, bro. Chainring spider fatness issues aside, I'd rather pay an extra $15 for something that I think looks significantly better.

Me too.

Actually, the Andels with and external BB + shipping from Ben's end up costing more than Omniums from Bike Island. Add in the factor that Andels come with an ugly 46t chainring and it's Omniums FTW.

Incorrect. Shipping from Ben's is free on all orders > $100, and that particular crankset comes with a 48T chainring. As to the chainring, you can always change it out to a one you consider pretty, and you've got very few choices in chainring sizes with SRAM. Finally, the SRAM BB has a mixed reputation, so you might end up having to change it, whereas the Andel is good stuff throughout.
