Sugino 75 compatibility
 

The Sugino 75 Crankset.

First of all...i was on Benscycle, and saw the Sugino 75 Cranks and was in awe. That crank cost more than my frame. WTH.

In any case, my amigo says he bought a cinelli vigorelli frame that came with a Sugino 75bb with which his Sugino RD2 cranks did not fit.

So i thought he might not be doing something right. While looking up specs on both his cranks and the Sugino 75 crankset (not the BB lol), the interfaces were the same. Square taper JIS etc. If thye were the same, they should fit the same bottom bracket....idk whats up. Maybe we're doing somethign wrong, maybe there was something lost in some sort of incorrect terminology.

Basic problem: Sugino 75 Bottom Bracket was not working with the RD2 crankset, also made by Sugino.

If im not mistaken, it might be the difference between JIS and ISO?

I was looking on sheldon brown, and Sugino 75 falls under ISO, while RD2 cranks have JIS interfaces....I believe I found my problem. But I need confirmation of this. Never run into this problem XD.

You are right. Sugino 75 uses ISO where RD uses JIS.

There's more to specifying a square taper/bb interface than the taper type.
You must also have the correct spindle length for the crankset you are using.

Just because the two things are made by Sugino doesn't make them compatible.

RD2 takes a 103mm BB to get a respectable chainline. Using a 109mm 75 BB with the wrong spindle interface is just silly.

Thanks guys. Btw. It wasn't my bike haha. Its not like he ordered 2 dif seperate items anyway. The vigorelli came with a BB already, and he tried to use the crank that he had from his current bike. XDthanks again
