    price check: steamroller isle

yo hipsters. been lurking around here for a little while and am about ready to pull the trigger ona craigslist special and wanted to know if its a good deal...

this'll be my first ssfg bike and am feeling like its a pretty good deal for what i'm looking for, which is a getaroundtowner and exercise bike, and i'll be rollin singlespeed for a while until i get used to the feel of things.

good price? any concerns with this particular year or anything i should be heads up about when i go to check it out? and anything that i should absolutely tear down and replace if i do scoop it?

    go for it!

One thing that I do to check to see if the bike was ever in a crash is to take the front wheel off and then put it back on. It should be seamless, if it take more force than normally, then there's a good chance the fork alignment is out of wack due to a crash. I almost bought a Cannondale, but didn't thankfully after it didn't pass this test.

Test ride the bike, if it feels funny to you handlingwise like if it tends to steer one direction, I'd be cautious. It could just be something simple like an overtightened headset, but it could also mean the frame or fork is out of alignment.

There's a barely used Steamroller on my local CL for $400 as well. I don't need another bike at the moment, or I might have jumped on it.

i guess fit is one of my biggest concerns. i plan to check the bike out tomorrow and have always referred to the crotch test to see if a bike fits (straddle top tube, pull up front wheel about as much as it would take to clear a curb, if it doesnt smash your junk you're good to go). sound about right?

It makes me want to start mixing up watercolors.

And to keep thread relevance, solid bike, would buy, if fit correctly. And it's CL, so lowball at first, it's expected.
