just got hit by a car :(
Just got T-Boned crossing a cross walk/entrance to my apartments. I flew onto the hood and messed her car up quite a bit. I fell down and my bike took quite the fall too. I thankfully didnt get too hurt, just scrapes on my hands. I got her info, name and number. I'm wondering what I do about my bike, how do I know if theres something wrong with it now? Should I take it to a LBs and make them check it out and see if anything is wrong with it? The lady said she claims full responsibility, she wanted to call the police and ambulance but I objected. I told her I just want my bike checked out and if there was anything wrong I'd give her a call.

****! Glad you're okay though.
I am not sure if you should get the insurance people involved but take the bike to a bike shop you trust and ask them to inspect the bike for you. Ask them for a quote for the repairs. Oh yea, it's best to go to a doctor to get a check up. |
Your gona need a police report.

**** man this totally blows. I hope my bikes okay and I'm pretty scared still. That **** was not cool. I mean honestly, I even looked at her to make sure I could go. She got out of the car and was like IT WAS MY FAULT. I even got a witness. ****kkkkkkKKKKK

But seriously, glad you are ok. My Buddy got T-Boned not to long ago and a similar situation happened. Except, the guy wo hit him took him to the hospital in his car and got in ANOTHER accident on the way there! Glad you are ok again. Could have been alot worse. |
Glad that you are OK.
|
do you want to sell me a masi?
|
glad to hear that you are ok!!! also good big she was cool and understands she could be accountable for the accident!
just wondering... isnt it almost always advised to get a police report at the scene? I mean just in case a injury does come into the picture? or if the bike damage is more significant once inspected? |

File a report ASAP. Her insurance company could even come back and ask you to pay for the damages and you got nothing to back your side of the story. Insurance companies can be brutal in these situations. Insurance adjusters are crooked!!! They don't want to pay for damages so they will come after you. If no police report has been filed, they'll blame you for the damages. Don't trust the women if she says that she'll pay for everything blah. blah. blah. File a report and hire an attorney. and don't ask me how I know about this :notamused: |
Man, you should have had the cops come. But just make sure you're not too messed up. Things like neck/spine injuries can take a while to manifest... I would have totally gotten the cops involved from the start. But do what you can now.

good to hear your ok it is unclear from you statement whether or not you were riding your bike or walking it depending on local law you may actually be at fault some states and cities prohibit you fom riding on sidewalks and in crosswalks unless designated as multi user paths look into this before you make any noise with the authorities as you could end up owing the motorist money
sorry to say it but it has happened to me a few times so.... |

they will have a sign stating that it is usable for bicycles ca law is you ride in the road unless otherwise marked
look it up on google there are examples of signage they are more common on the east coast and in foreign countries they are all over the place here in Korea |
just remember the facts: while delivering mess bag of muffins to some starving orphans that woman hit you breaking you zipp 404s and is responsible for the cost of replacement. is the frame of your Mash ok, cause that may need replacement too.

Since it happened at the entrance of my apt complex, right after the crash I went home.. I got the ladys info and stuff to give her a call about my bike. When I got home I looked in the mirror and my ribs had an abrasion on them. My right wrist had a pretty gnarly gash. I decided I should go to the ER so I was driven there. Spent the night and got some X-Rays. Pretty much everything is fine except some ligaments in my knee. Wish I could say the same for my bike. The wheelset is thrashed. Its like oval. Now here is the ****ty part. I filled out a crash form and stuff. The lady that hit me isnt answering her phone calls. I found her on FB and sent her a politte message asking her if everything was okay and that she wasnt answering her calls. She deleted her FB. I'm out of luck. I'm stuck with these hospital bills and a broken bike. This was my first accident ever. Now I know to call the police right then. This sucks. I know her car, adress, old number, first and last name but I have no rights. :notamused:

It sucks that the system penalizes you for trying to be a nice, honest person. You didn't think you were injured, and you knew that calling police / insurance would **** up the ladies life by a non-negligible amount.
But now she's reneging on her promise to help you, and promises don't count for **** in court. I hope you at least have a couple witnesses backing your side of the story, so she doesn't try to claim you ran a red light and make you pay for her car. |
no more nice guy. on the phone with a lawyer now. i didnt want to have to do this but i am so mad. i have her address from snooping around. this fat ***** is gonna pay. i didnt run any lights because there was no light. i had the right of way. there was no bike lane. i had two lights on. it was daytime. i have a witness. i have her number. i have her name. i have her address. i will find her place of work.

It might be a little late now, but discussing pending legal matters on public internet forums is usually a bad idea.
If this goes to court her lawyer is going to love finding this thread and seeing in post #1 how you told her not to call the police. |
