Tires

Alright So i commute daily on my Fixed gear and in the past 500 miles on it I have gone thru 4 sets of tires.... I run a suicide brake but mainly skid stop or leg stop. what have you guys run that holds up well?

this is the bike it goes on:

and this is what my current tires look like now (original front tire)

The only way to keep from tearing through tires is to use your brake. If you skid a lot just get the cheapest tire possible for the rear.

Which is cheaper? Brake Pads or Tires.

I get them for free since I have a stock pile from when Michelin(previous) and continental(current) sponsor(ed) me. just curious if any of you have had any experience to a certain one lasting longer than an other. I loved the original tires that were on it (which is what the front one still is) it is extremely thick and didn't wear out as fast but I am always looking to try others

And you still have time to mess around on a fixie. I knew pro road racer my age, when I was 18, and that took over his life

I am a student.. I wish I could be in cali doing the Crit's but I am stuck getting a degree.... I am not pro but a Cat 1 racer still. Sponsors are pretty easy to come by as long as you rep their product they are happy to help. i have 17 at the current moment. had as much as 21 last year (but I also did 73 races last year)

***didnt mean to hi-jack my own thread lol***

you mean the vittoria Rando?

and it has seen 500+ hard miles. so I cant complain to much about it other than weight and I went with a half link chain and new Sram cranks and a new seat with narrowed bars

okay taking that into consideration i think i have narrowed it down to:

Gatorskin, Everwear, and Randonneur....

what i think i am going to do for now is swap the tires front and rear until i decide that way i dont wear thru.... been there and done that and it sucks wearing thru a tube/tire

i've heard good things about everwears but have yet to try them, i wouldn't go for gatorskins if you skid a lot cause thats just a waste of money.
