Hey my names chris.

Okay Im wondering if a fixed gear / single speed would be okay for group rides. Im thinking about building a project road bike for some group rides. The group rides range from 10-12 and 14-18 mph average speeds. (different groups) and the terrain is rolling hills to flat. My cadence I would like to use is 80-90. I have never ridden a fixed gear bike but I heard it alot more demanding then a multi gear bike. Plus I think getting over a hill without using a granny gear feels amazing from a mental standpoint.

What should I know about single gear vs fixed gear? All in all im very curious about fixed gears and I have no means to ride one until I can build my own project bike soon. Any info/insight/tips would be helpful.
