Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

I need a crank suggestion

So it is almost bicycle weather again well here in Minnesota well for me that is. At the end of last summer my cartridge bottom bracket decided to bust. It pretty much jiggles back and forth, which is no bueno. The crank I have attached is a used brand I have never heard of , the chainring is set in really far (like with a 110mm bb the chain ring would scrape the frame) but it was a long bottom bracket so the chainline was acceptable. Probably came off of some old BMX or other odd bike from the 80's. Anyway this is all mounted on a 79 peugeot U08 (english thread), so I need a crank suggestion also I want a bash gaurd to my chain and pants in check..

If I could I would like to keep my current crank it has a bashgaurd built into it sort of like the white industries ones. But it might just be to much of a hassle.

Here is a picture if it helps:

This is just my beater aroud town/bar bike. So on the cheap side is what I am thinking.

Whaaa...?

Pull off the cranks, inspect the BB. Chances are one of the cups have come loose. Or it's not really an English thread. If needed, replace the BB.

Or go vintage stronglight. Some of the models had a chain guard.

Yeah I know they switched to english in in 1980. I am 100% sure that this has a english thread, since I have a fench BB and it would not go it at all. This is not a cup and ball BB it is a sealed cartriage BB, it is a sinz 118mm. It is actually meant for bmx bikes.

I think my local LBS tried to put a a swiss on it before I just took it into my own hands and made it work..And when I said I made it work I did this.

The threading in the frame shell was short so it did not go on all the way in on one side, but about 3/4 of the thread was in the shell so I figured it would be ok and the chainline looked good. Yeah I know this is probally why it is screwed up, but like I said it is a beater bike. I used to have this set up as a geared bike and I had a shimano cartridge BB and it went in just fine but it had less threads.

If you like this crank and all that's wrong is the busted bb, get a shimano un54 in 118 and be done.
Edit: I just noticed that the exposed thread is on the DS, so measure the exposed thread and add that to the spindle lenght and get whatever that comes out be.
