Stupid question about track pedals

I've noticed on pedals like Wabi, All-City, and Origin8 and even stuff like the MKS RX1/Royal Nuevo they have either a little bracket and a little tab, or two little brackets towards the back where the little tab is on the faceplate.

The straps are supposed to through them...correct? What is there purpose. School me. I've always been curious. I currently have my wabi straps through them on my all-city pedals and have long wondered of their function/purpose. Some pedals like the MKS Slyvan's don't seem to have them.

I would say you're talking about the fliptab, which facilitates entry into the clip. But I can;t conceive of how someone would manage to put their straps through one, let alone think thats what its for...

Yeah I'm talking about the tabs on the sides of the cage. Just curious of their function/purpose. I personally but my straps through them.

Those are sick! Where could one get those pedals/clips/straps? I googled the name but could only find the leather straps and they weren't the same...
