Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

It coils up double and fits neatly on the rack. Actually, going to the post office is the only time I carry a lock and use it. This is a low-crime area and most of my riding is recreational, meaning I don't stop anywhere.

EDIT: I normally ride a different bike to the post office, that one has a Wald "Giant Basket" on the front.

Welcome! Ignore the a-holes. I think with that bike you will be treated kindly.

The brake lever is on the handlebars, so no one can complain about that.

First fixed-gear after a year and a half on a roadie. Dawes SST-AL from BD. First thing I did was throw a set of FSA wing pro's on there and my old Fizik Pave saddle to replace the crap bars and saddle.

Haven't ridden it much as I still take the regular bike on serious rides. I have to say tho, riding fixed still freaks me out.

While I do prefer a little 'track slack', that chain is a little looser than I like to see but otherwise, that bike looks great.

I actually have 2 single speeds, but I won't bore you with a relatively stock Redline 925. This is my Steyr Clubman that I finally got together.

I like the simple coaster brake setup, it's fine for the type of riding I do. I'm old (41) and don't have any desire to go fixed. Gonna ride it with the drop bar for a week then swap to a mustache bar for a week to see which I like better on this bike.

I had the bike out in the front yard so I figured I'd snap a shot.

Still need to find a new crankset, but for now it's a nice ride.

New garage [sourced parts] queen. Bought the frame for $20 with a stuck seatpost:

Conquered.

For this build, I bought a freewheel for $15 and a 4 prong remover as mine has gone missing. When I get around to it, I'm going to swap some parts around and wind up with black calipers, crankarms and a chain that isn't white. Some bar tape that isn't just stretched and faded take off would be nice as well and maybe a front wheel that isn't QR while I'm at it. For $35 and a lot of elbow grease, I'm more than happy.

Off to ride this mofo and get some glamour shots.

No doubt, but I'll be commuting 9 miles to work so functionality will win out over fashion in this case. Gonna try out both and see which works best for this ride. The mustache bars are actually from the Redline 9-2-5, which now has a touring bar.
