I thought TT said that the kilo is made in Taiwan vs the Hour in China and thus has better welds. But really the answer is in the original question. Most of the people coming here are looking for a bike with a modicum of track cred and thus the aggressive geometry is usually a plus.

I've been lurking for awhile while building a kilo of my own. This thread couldn't of been more helpful, thanks everyone. Here's my Orange Kilo Deluxe frame I built up!

Pretty nice. Now you should go full Merckx and drill holes in everything.

I wish the deluxe stays and forks were fully chromed. I'm just not a fan of the chrome gym sock look.

For those who are wondering, I sent Bikes Direct an email when they would be restocking the Kilo TT Pros, here is their response:

Thank you for your inquiry. We are scheduled to receive another shipment of the Mercier Kilo TT Pro in September.

New member here. Only looked into bikes in about 3 days ago. My friend bought a Kilo TT, and now i'm thinking of getting one to ride with him. Any advice or suggestions if I should get the Kilo TT or the Kilo TT Pro or the Kilo Stripper. I see the difference in parts through bikesdirect but like I said, I am a complete noob. Don't know what any of the parts mean in terms of performance and what not. I am just doing recreational riding in NYC. Some help clarifying the difference between these 3 Kilo's would be greatly appreciated.

Pro version for sure. The parts are easily worth the price difference. The "Stripper" just means that it doesn't have any logos on it.

Thanks for the quick response! I want the pro but no where has it in stock, and I want to get the bike within 2 weeks and ride with my friend before he leaves and joins the army. I noticed that the Stripper version has different tires than the regular TT. I honestly dislike the glossy black on the regular TT. If i could get my hands on a white TT or a pro in my size, I'd buy in a heartbeat. Looks like bikesdirect is the only place where i can get the complete set?

Yup.

I'd be surprised if there was a heck of a lot of difference in the tires.

The Kilo TT is measured c-c, so get the 50cm.

gotcha. My friend has a kilo 50cm and he's an inch shorter than me and when i stood over his bike barefoot, i felt some space between my crotch and the top tube.

Which means nothing in regard to actual bike fit.

yup, read that from you somewhere in this thread when i backtracked. i just thought a 50cm might be slightly too small, but according to the fit, I should be getting a 50cm. Since BD doesn't have anymore kilo pros, i'll be ordering the regular kilo tt and just upgrade to a pro down the line. I already have a friend whose gonna buy this kilo i'm getting when i want to upgrade to a pro.

any difference between Kenda K191 700x23c tires and Kenda Koncept Lite Kevlar bead 700x23c tires? Or are they both crap and wear out quicker when i do skids.

Any tire that is not super thick or super hard will wear out quickly if you do a lot of skids. Neither of those tires is meant for that.

The Pro is definitely better than the stock Kilo, but I don't know if I'd sell a perfectly fine Kilo TT just to buy the Pro. You should upgrade the parts you don't like instead.

reason for upgrading to pro is mainly color choice. I'm getting a kilo right now so i can ride with my friend before he goes off to the army. I have some other friends looking to get fixies too and one of them is gonna buy my kilo tt once BD restocks the pros in the color i want. I'm just gonna swap the upgrades onto the pro when i get it. Pro or not, theres gonna be some upgrades on my kilo once i'm done with it. I really like how the shark grey and the pearl white comes out with some nice upgrades. In the meantime, i'm gonna ride this black kilo tt to familiarize myself with it and tinker thru trial and error till i find my own fit. Thanks for the responses guys, it really is a great help

So guys, I'm expecting my Stripper Black Kilo today. I'm already thinking about upgrades. So far on my list are some Thomson Stems, thickslick tires for skidding, and MKS GR-10 peddles.I know I should get a new cog and lockring first so I'll be picking up Scrod's from retro-gression. In addition to that, Whats a good company for bullhorns, crankset, hubs, saddle?

I was thinking about Origin-8 bullhorns, Sugino Crankset (or something cheaper), Dura Ace hubs, and maybe a Selle saddle (or something cheaper) i want a soft maybe a gel saddle. Any suggestions? I'm going for an all black look on my Kilo.
