Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? Funny, but for the most of the riding people on here do, that bike is fine. You don't need a $2000 tark bike to ride to the bar. If I had a choice between your bike, or a junktastic leader like this:

I would pick your bike. Even in stock form it makes more sense.

Yup, and you know his this:

When he rather ride a republic than a leader, frame only, costs nearly as much as the republic entirely.

I'm sorry that I don't want to ride a super stiff, cheap Al track frame with the wrong geometry for riser bars on the street. Those republic bikes not be the most flashy bikes on the planet, but they are 100% functional for the type of riding most fixed gear riders really do. At least republic bike can make their bikes with rear triangles that fit the wheel they were designed for right? Someone in this forum has to be realistic.

Republic bikes are so flashy. Part of the appeal is that they are highly customizable in the tarcky matchy department. They seem to be primarily marketed to a crowd of people who have no idea what they're doing and will pay double the price just for matching colors. The bright colors make Republic bikes stand out when they're locked up, and that's what makes them flashy.

The "problem" with Republic bikes is that they are overpriced for what they are. It's a Wal-Mart quality bike that is priced 4x more.

Any bike is better than no bike.

If it gets people riding, who cares?

Truth.

I just think it's unsettling to see that someone spent $400 on a bike when $280 could have bought them a bike that would have been more enjoyable to ride. Or... bike snobbery ftw.

Peeps are going to talk smack about almost any bike. Whether it be the logo, materials, or components. The only reason I don't like Republic Bikes is the ridiculous prices. Although look at Mission Bicycle prices and Republic isn't that bad. Just look out for what you could be getting and what you're paying for that.

With that said, you got it for free so +1 for you. Unless you stole it. Don't steal bikes bro.

I digress, the point is that if you own a bike then ride the hell out of it. Maybe not in Las Cruces, cause LC sucks.

Unless you need to get the hell out of the warzone that is Ciudad Juarez in a hurry. Then steal whatever you need to steel, just remember you can't outride bullets.

LC sucks but the ride from LC to Cloudcroft and back is SAWEET(if the wind is calm)! plus the pie and coffee in cloudcroft is nothing short of amazing

And I dont steel bikes I am very against that. it actually was a present to me.

**off topic**

and you all MAY (depending if you MTB or not) appreciate this. Convinced my dad to get a new MTB over spring break. Scott spark 30, Sram XX, DT swiss rims/hubs, (120mm)Fox 32 RLC/RP3 with remote lockout

so i had to take him out to whoop his ass! (as if i could... he is a multi ironman triathlete who can hold 24mph for 120miles on a Tri bike) He has the power a little more skill and he will be kicking my ass soon again...

**on topic**

news is all hype. again it aint no walk in the park but its nothing like the news portrays .... silly news. lol.

His new bikes is nice. But i still love my Giant for the riding I do. i have a dedicated XC bike(Giant Anthem advanced 100mm fox RLC/RP3 Push tuned, XTR all the way round, Mavic Crossmax's with Larson TT's) but my Giant Trance(pictured) i run as an XC bike that takes AM abuse (120mm Fox RL/RP2, WTB Laser Disk Lite's with 15mm Thru axle front, XT/RaceFace/Sram drive train, hayes Strokers yada yada).

That was New Zealand about 2 weeks ago at the house they rented. they just got back from 19 days there... he did the New Zealand Ironman while he was there too

found an excerpt from last years race I had archived about me:

Today I felt like I had an average bike at best. I caught one person who was ahead of me right before the turn around putting me into 4th place overall. Then a youngster wearing a New Mexico State University triathlon team singlet passed me on the bike with 5K to go. I tried my best to hang with him, to no avail. This kid was FAST! I finished the bike in 5th place overall with an bike split of 62 minutes, which is an average of a little over 21 miles an hour- course PR baby! I got into T-2 approximately 45 seconds behind the NM state kid.
