Which wheel is it better to sink money into?

I have been riding fixed for about a year now not having upgraded my bike. I want to treat myself with an Aerospoke wheelset but I can only afford one right now. Is it better to build up the front or back? I do lots of skidding and I know aerospokes aren't light. Any advice?\

pretty much no matter what wheelset you have now, an aerospoke is not an "upgrade"

If you want a new wheelset and are using stock wheels, get a local shop to hand build you a set.

what do you mean specifically? I understand that its a track wheel, (I hate to say it) i feel like im good enough now to not look like a complete looser with a nice wheel

Aerospokz!?! No

Hed 3's are better to sink money into. but you'll have to save double what you have to get one.

Aerospokes are not track wheels, they used to be on TT bikes way back in the early 90s but were abandoned because of the poor aerodynamics, weight and flex.

If I was buying a wheel for its functionality why not go for the Mavic iO. I just like the look and want to treat myself in vanity. Nothing wrong with having a bike you enjoy

get something lighter, stronger and better looking.

in other words, pretty much any other wheelset. for the money you'll spend on an aerospoke set, you could get a handbuilt set with much better components for probably a little bit less. i'm not sure where to begin as far as suggestions but look at velocity deep v's, mavic open pros, cpx-33's, h plus son f30's or ff's, pretty much any of those laced to formula, all city, etc. would be a better option. and look a hell of a lot nicer.

A Mavic IO is a proper track wheel.

but it's way out of a reasonable price range.

Good. If buying an Aerospoke makes you ride and like your bike more, the go for it!

I personally enjoy seeing bikes with a front Spok.

I also need a wheel with an odd number of spokes. From what I have read online if there is an even number then something to do with the resonance of the spokes moving through the fork makes it slower//? unsure if this is true, but I know marvic used to have a 4 spoke wheel but discontinued it. The 5 is the best for strength but obviously heavier than the 3

What type of bike do you have right now, and what wheels are on it? How much are you looking to spend?

Spinergy, Xentis and Corima all make even number-spoked wheels and they are all pretty aero.

IMO you are overthinking this way too much. If you want an upgrade, get a real wheel(set) built. If you want fashion, go with arrospok.

I'm with this guy. The op knows the wheel is not more functional, he wants it cause he wants it, looks, bling factor, whatever. If having an aerospoke makes the dude like his bike more than he does now, I fully support his buying it.

About which one to buy, always go with a front, looks way better than just a rear

Since he's going for aesthetics me might be more inclined to go for polished rim like V.O. Raid rims or Sun M13 II

Hell I'm not even saying I don't want one (i even said i did) but I'm not gonna spend $300 on it!! with that kind of $$ i would look at some REAL bling and get some Phil Wood's, and have not only a real usable track wheelset but 2 wheels way nicer than one aerospoke... but thats just me...

if you are getting some kind of good/ bro deal on it then go for it. if your gonna spend full on it then i would do some research on what TRUE wheel bling is since this sounds to be more about that than function. but why not get some sick function out of it too...

Get some Mavic Ellipse Track wheels! Pretty blingy in my opinion.

Thank you all. This has been some fantastic discussion.

with that kind of $$ i would look at some REAL bling
can any one explain this? I was looking at HED and Mavic wheelsets but I don't have gratuitous amounts of CASH-OLA to throw around. Any decent "wheel bling" in my price range?

I wasn't "voting" for anything, just agreeing that if buying an Aerospoke will make the OP like and ride his bike more, he should go for it.
