Bike Trainer for SS Bike?

Hey everyone,

I'm planning on getting a bike trainer on my local craigslist to be used during nights where i come home from work late.

Will bike trainers work with track bikes (Dawes SST AL)? The two models i'm looking at are the 2007 Cycleops Mag and the 2007 Blackburn Trakstand Mag. Would these two models work with our 15mm rear bolts? Both of the trainers have adjustable resistance which is a plus.

Thanks.

I think the Cycleops will work because you can unscrew the lever arm and move it effectively spacing the clamp closer to accommodate your track/SS wheel.

The Trackstand looks like it will work, too. But, with both, it would be best if you took your rear wheel with you when you buy to make sure the trainer will clamp on it.

They should both work.

Was also lookin into a stationary trainer. But not quite sure if they'll work with my rear wheel given I'm using fat allan bolts for my chub hub. I think it uses a 16mm allen wrench

Which trainers will definitely work with 15mm bolts? I went to the Performance store and they said that most trainers won't work because the trainers use a skewer of some sort.

Sorry for bringing up a dead thread but i thought it would be better to post here than start another one.

I know that the following will work with track bolts:
- TACX Satori magnetic (Awesome trainer)
- Kurt Kinetic Road Pro fluid (Awesome as well. Great road feel when using a road bike. FG riding is sort of tough when using bigger gears.)
- Cycleops Magnetic
- There are many more, but that's what I've used or tried personally.

Yeah, a lot of those trainers in Performance won't work with 15mm bolts. But, all you have to do is pull a bike off the rack and check and see.

Thanks for the list.

I saw this older model Cycleops mag trainer. Do you think this will work since it's one of the trainers you mentioned?

I'm not sure.

BTW, newer trainers feel better. They evolve. I suggest that you try before you buy. It would suck for you to buy a trainer and it feels like crap. I've been on plenty that felt like crap. The TACX Satori magnetic is probably the least expensive one that feels good.

As low as $213
