Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? currently eyeing a bike

so i have my eyes on a 2010 dawes mta (chicabike - apparently bikesdirect from my research) and the consensus (mostly in bikeforums.net) seems to be that it's awful. however, it seems that most of the complaints seem to be because of the components it's stocked with.

what i would like to know is if the frame itself is any good? and if this is an alright bike to start with? or is it really just all around crap?

btw, it caught my eye simply because of it's price. i guess you can say i have a "newbie budget."

suggestions to other bikes would be awesome.

here's the link to said bike

If you're looking for just the frame...I'd highly recommend this bad boy.

Great frame for its price but only draw back is only one size left.

i'd bet it definitely is a great frame and probably is a great price (i'm quite a newb when it comes to looking at a bike and judging how it is) but as a newb who doesn't even know his bike parts (yet... hopefully lol) i think i should just buy a full set first to get a feel for what i might want. or should i buy it piece by piece? and is the dawes mta bike really bad?

thnx for the reply

Buy a complete and double your budget. The Moto Track on bikes direct is a good start. That $140 dawes is pretty much a walmart bike.
