$700 to spend on a bike, build a VISP or buy a complete?
So I just sold my first bike and now it's time for an upgrade. I could either build a 58cm VISP with some b43s or buy something complete. Is there anything nice in the market in the $700 range?

Felt Brougham, new saddle, stem, and pedals? Used Trek T1? Used Leader 725TR?
You'll generally get more for your money if you buy complete.

You can get a much better bike for 700
I got a fuji track comp for 699 on sale.
Look for last year models on sale. You might even find a track pro!
Here are some $700 bikes currently on sale in the US.
All City Big Block
Fuji Track Comp
GT GutterBall

how much better of a ride would this be with these dura ace components over $700 visp? the reason i keep going back to the visp is im trying to do something completely black, but a nice bike for $700 could sway me

i have a visp and on friday will have it on b43s. it's a pig and even if you built it with dura ace components it would still be absolute **** compared to the motobacon tarck taem.
i would rather have a big block and get punched in the face every night for a month by someone about as weak/strong as i am than have a visp for the same price.

Dura-Ace is nice ****. As in, you could buy several Visp framesets for the price of my DA drivetrain.
However, If all you care about is the color of your bike, throw your cash in whichever direction your heart desires.

i ride mondays with a guy who has a red sparkly big block. it's a great bike. feels awesome under a sprint. looks amazing.
my visp looks pretty cool but that's mainly because i know how to put parts together to look nice. it's not a bad bike, but it's not half the bike a track team is. it's seriously a couple pounds heavier and generally more compliant in the ways you don't want compliance.
i think the visp is a great bike if you want to look awesome and ride around town not worrying about hurting your bike or being out a lot of cash if someone beats it with a hammer.
and let's face it: if those aren't your goals, you might as well get gears.

I might look around for a Felt TK3. New they are only $800, so you can probably get one a few years old for a nice price. I think for a complete bike they are pretty nice. 18lbs stock weight is solid
$769 here

The 2011 Trek T1 MSRP is $899. If you call around to some Trek shops, you can find some decently good deals. I called about 20 or so different bike shops. Finally found one that sold me the 2011 for $699. Great bike for the money.
Like others said, really do your homework and check out lots of options.
