Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? First Fixie Recomandation Thread v.989382

I know this question has been asked a million times, but here it goes anyways.

I have limited knowledge of the fixie scene so I will need some help choosing one. I don't really have any preferences or anything, just my budget is around $400. It will be locked up outside most of the time, so I don't really want to worry about it getting stolen/damaged too much.

Just need some suggestions on what complete fixie to get. I ride a 56 if that matters.

Republic bikes any good? Or is it just some company designed to scam hipsters of their money? Only reason I'm asking is because its in my price range. Also, I know of "bikesdirect.com" but I thought I would ask for recommendations on here before I purchase anything.

I am in no ways a "beginner" when it comes to bicycle mechanics. I built and I maintain my bmx and road bikes, but I do not have that much knowledge on fixed/ss bikes.

I do not really want to do a conversion.

-Thanks, any help is appreciated. Also, I will go out of my price range if it is well worth it.

you should do a search and check the stickys. as you said, this has been covered at length.

storing the bike outside with rain is not a good idea if you love your bike at all though.

my advice is to go out and test drive some bikes. my second bike is when i got it right in terms of what i knew i wanted out of a bike.

The stickys I looked at were outdated and not necessarily exactly what I was looking for. Thought I could get a few quick responses from some knowledgeable people, so I made a thread.

+1

I'm really happy with my Kilo TT from BD for 350.

I would get pedal/cage/straps for rest of $50

and save up for the saddle, since the nice saddles are usually more than $50.
