Weinmann DP18 vs Velocity vs Tec 9 "Deep V" VISUAL ONLY Comparison?

So my bike got stolen and i need one ASAP and ive read up on differences between Velocity,Weinmann,tec9 etc in terms of strength, durability, horror stories etc...

Now the only reason im even considering the DP18s or Tec9's is because of my budget, i would get some B43's if i had $100 more but my budget is $130-$150 for a wheelset...

Now my question is whenever i see the DP18s vs an actual velocity rim i can tell right away which is which just by the size of the actual rim because velocity has a little indent all around the rim curving in and all the DP18s ive seen even non machined do not have the indent therefore making the rim look alot smaller...

Now im seeing some maybe newer DP 18s here...

http://cgi.ebay.com/Weinmann-Deep-V-...ht_2059wt_1034

and they look like they may be the same size finally as an actual velocity rim... all i want to know is... have i been seeing different DP 18s and they actually are identical to the velocity look wise and which rim looks thicker and a better deal... the link up there or these

http://www.roadbikeoutlet.com/bike-p...ubs-white.html

I know both are ****ty but i need a wheelset for the bike i have right now and as stupid as it sounds i would really like white rather than a normal fixed wheel set for $20 more, thanks for reading and any help is appreciated. this is PURELY aesthetic, not the quality of the ride.

You can get B43s for $200 from Velomine. If B43s are what you want, just save up another $50 and get them. Chances are, you won't be happy with your 30mm profile rim if a 43mm profile rim is really the look you're going for.

Also check out Eighth Inch Julians. They are 42mm deep and are $175ish.

you're being kind of picky for "ASAP"

ladies and gentlement... introducing, the world's most boring wheelset!

it's an indestructible wheelset, i rode my last through 3 new york winters before they were stolen last summer(locked in the middle of a pile of friends bikes, they had to ruin my fork to get the front wheel out i), i had enough bikes stolen through break ins/muggings when i was growing in philly up to tell you to lock up outside as little as possible and it's best to go with something cheap and reliable rather than anything flashy

i like how m13s look...no one can deny how classy scrods bike looks

REMspeedwagon 04-16-11 03:23 AM

DP18's have never changed. Tec9 is very heavy and built rather poorly.

One is 30mm and the other is 43mm deep. I don't think you know what you are talking about..

Yeah man...my bike looks totally "boring":

I ride around yawning all the time as a result.

If what you really want is b43, then get the tec9's. They're just b43's with machined sidewalls. If you're worried about them being crappy quality, then just take em into a shop, it shouldn't be more than 20 bucks.

Not boring...classy.

EveryManALion 04-16-11 06:06 PM

You are right, im an idiot and didnt look at the actual wheel size of the Tec9's compared to the Weinmann. I went with the tec9's as i found a listing for a non machined pair on ebay for 100 shipped with cogs tires and tubes... I dont mind so much the weight of them as im just worried about basic commuting... i read on a previous post in 09 when the tec9's first came out that even though they are a poor quality wheel... they are still pretty strong for how "deep" they are and the spoke count? is that true, im going to be doing some basic riding around Philadelphia nothing to intense...like i said its purely for the looks...

I know ill get *****ed at for this but they are going on a ****ty vilano i got off ebay as well for $160 new so total im only spending $300 on the bike complete(crmo)with B43 rip offs which is not horrible, Im more of an appearance person, i know i could have dropped 50 more and gotten the kilo tt, or 30 less and gotten the windsor off bikes direct but i really wanted some deep white rims. Im just curious about the quality of those rims in terms of basic everyday rides.

crispyblunts 04-18-11 11:34 PM

36 spoke count is very normal. If you're doing basic riding, any wheelset will do just fine. m13's shown earlier in the thread are going to hold up just as fine as b43's would. Strength of rims really only becomes a thing when you're tricking. And if you got a vilano for 160 that's a great deal. Any complete bike stock for less than 200 something to be happy about (unless its a walmart bike). Also I think you may be mistaken on the prices for BD bikes.
