Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Indie Fab's Phil Wood 40th Anniversary $15.5K Titanium Bike

http://www.thebikebiz.com/Phil_Wood_...-trk-phi01.htm

The frame will be built by IF and polished by Phil. The bike will feature a custom sterling silver Phil Wood head badge and Phil Wood made custom dropouts. Every set of dropouts will be made after a bike has been ordered and the geometry has been determined so that it fits the frame perfectly. The bikes will be built with special 40th anniversary Phil Wood hubs using all titanium hardware and carbonyte bearings. The 40th anniversary Phil Wood chainring and Phil Wood crank arms (not pictured) will be truly unique, and will be mated to a Phil Wood Titanium-Magnium bottom bracket. You can choose any size chainring, and extra 40th anniversary chainrings will be available at the time the bike is ordered. The Edge Composites fork, bar, stem, post, and rims will be finished in matte carbon with no decals or logos. You can choose of of two width Gilles Berthoud titanium railed saddles. Phil wood is working to build every component of this bike they can including custom valve stem caps and custom Phil bar tape. They will even come with a custom bike cover (think car cover but nicer). All the custom parts will all be numbered as shown on the closeup of the dropout. If you want a specific number say 40 of 40 as long as it has not been sold you can have it. It will truly be a unique bike.

The bikes will be built with custom geometry and tubing selection to Independent Fabrications excellent standards, and will be built in the order they are purchased. The first bikes are expected to be delivered around mid May.

Complete bike weight is expected to be 14-15 pounds. The spec or price could change slightly, but no major changes are expected."

Absolutely do want...

I'm not dropping that kind of money on a steel track bike and I doubt any normal person will unless you're a spoiled kid who drives a Maserati bought by daddy... that's enough for a nicely loaded pinarello dogma.

i love how the first two replies in here are "i wouldn't pay that much for a steel bike" when it's titanium, and "but you could get a hand-built bike" when it is hand-built to your specs

i saw this bike at NAHBS. it didn't impress me personally, but it's a collector's item. that's why it's limited to 40 bikes. you guys act like we live in a world where things are only worth their surface functionality. you find yourself the right 1955 penny and it's worth $25k, and it's a ****in PENNY

I still won't buy it when I can get the equivalent for much less and probably from a better person/ company. As for collection, I'm settling on my phil hurricane relief hubs. O wuts that? I'm lacing them to b43's?

I could buy 7 or 8 top of the line bikes for that price and never need to buy another bicycle for the rest of my life.

Pfffft. For $15,500 it should read:

We will send Katy Perry (in latex) to playfully take your measurements...then hang out and spend the night...to see if any measurements change.
