My headset is talking to me!

My headset started making a kind of clicking sound the other day. It almost sounds like a knuckle cracking and it echoes through the frame. This is on my All City Big Block, Cane Creek S3 headset only a month old. The strange thing is it only happens when I turn the bars after the bike has sat for a few minutes, I do not hear it while riding around. Sticky bearings maybe? So far I have taken the bar and stem off, greased the exspansion nut bolt, lightgly greased the side of the spacers that touch each other etc. Sound still exists. It hasn't affected the way the bike rides but is just annoying. Any ohter suggestions on what it might be?

It maybe be a bit tight. Do you have a workstand? Remove the front wheel and stem and hit the top of the steerer with a rubber or plastic mallet to release the compresstion ring and lower the fork until it is free of the bearings. Then push the fork back up and try readjusting the headset with the top cap bolt. Tighten the headset only sufficiently to remove any play between the fork and headtube.
