Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? help help help.

help me, bike gods, i just picked up a Giant Sedona frame (good 15lb) and have this crazy crazy notion of converting into a fixie. For what i can see as a total newb, the frames are all pretty straight, and there's some rust here and there. The Sedona is light light green and it LOOKS like a track frame too.
So before i go all crazy, advise me on whether or not i should even start the project.
Thank you so much in advance!

Information such as colour and amount of rust is useless. If you are a bike noob get familiar with the name Sheldon Brown.
This will get you started and answer your conversion related questions

List these items in order of importance to you:

- Learning to assemble a bike
- Scouring ebay/craigslist
- Spending money/time
- Riding a cool bike
- Riding a customized bike

Seriously. The response to that will determine a lot.

After doing a little googling, everything I can find about the Giant Sedona says its a mid range hybrid. Sometime brands use the same name for modern hybrids as they did with their bike boom low end roadies(schwinn), but if yours is a new one: dont even try. Converting the bike will be expensive and difficult. And you will end up with a bike that doesnt ride perticularly well.

+1 This is almost certainly a hybrid. If it's like the Sedona's I've seen, it's definitely NOT a track frame. Before you go crazy post a picture.
