Yeah, I figured that would be the case once I decided to get it!

Care to explain? Is there a cog size threshold for chain wear?

The theory is that there are less teeth sharing the load, which sort of make sense.

Suntour makes/made? a stepped lockring.

I'm still not following. Fewer links carry the load, but they're under load proportionally less of the time. Not that this makes 12T cogs any less silly, I just don't see why they should result in greater chain wear.

Seriously, man. What gear ratio do you intend to use?

I have a 12t cog and I think I've used it once on the track. It made for a HUGE gear ratio. Even with a 44t chainring, it's 99 gear inches.

It was on sale for a reason.

I'm running a 40T front, my days of 53/11's are over.

That's still 90 gear inches. That's like running a 50/15. That's not a street gear. That's not a track warmup gear. That's a track race gear.

Seriously, man. I don't think you've thought this one through.

You are sort of confirming what I've written.

Every -1 tooth change of the cog is roughly (for conversation's sake) a +3 tooth change for the chainring. By going to a 40/12 from a 40/14, you are going to a 90" gear from a 77" gear.

You'll find out soon enough.
