Hey,

I just purchased a Masi 2009 Speciale Sprint frame to build a bike and wondering if you guys could help with some information on the appropriate sized threadless stem I should be looking at. I am also wondering about which type of set ups you would suggest. I prefer having unbranded and plain classic look chrome / silver on everything... no logos would be ideal. I was thinking of getting a pair of Nitto b-115 as well. Any ideas? What seat post do you think is a good average one for me? Not looking to break the bank, but looking for something cheap and effective for both the correctly sized steering stem / seat post. Any specific models? Below is the info about the currect headset, etc. Thanks.

- Frame: Reynolds 631 double-butted crmo
- Fork: Masi Elite/RS Aero carbon integrated w/7075 alloy steerer & custom track offset
- Headset: Ritchey Logic V2
- Seat Post Camp: Alloy SL

1 1/8" is the size of the stem. if you want classy chrome/silver stem, look into velo-orange, but if you want cheapy, Dimension or origin8.

for something cheap and does the job, get a kalloy seat post.

Awesome, I will definitely be checking velo-orange out now. Whats size seat post do you think would work best for my set up?

I'm not sure of the size. I'm still new into bike building. I tried googling the size that my new frame requires for a seat post but no luck so I was hoping someone familiar with this model could possibly shed some light and help me figure it out. Also, besides being 1 1/8 for the steering stem... what size mm do you suggest for an average to tall rider on a 58cm? 100mm etc?

No luck on finding a 1 1/8 velo-orange stem except for sold out or not in stock. Do you know of any reputable dealers who might carry them?

Here is mine…it is a 2010. Pretty basic really…Origin 8 tiki moustache bars, Easton carbon seatpost, cheapo Promax brake levers, Fizik saddle, Salsa 90 stem, etc….Also swapped the rear 16t cog out for a 18t. Mine is a 56cm and I am 5'10"

VO doesnt distribute their products through anywhere but their site.

If you have a buddy with a big parts box or a bike co-op Id go and play around with a variety of stems to try to find one thats right. In a pinch, if you aboslutly have to Id say go with 90mm. But if you dont want to waste your money(which you probably would) figure it out before buying an expesnive stem.

my guess is between 110-130mm depends on your specific body needs... frames built in 631 usually take a 27.2 seat post

I’m sure it is a super dumb question, but is the mm size how long the bars will be from the post part extending from the frame? Will any of those sizes fit but soley depends on my riding preference.. or do only certain mm sizes fit on a specific bike? It’s a bummer trying to guess because I don’t really have the opportunity to try out different sized parts. I’m just trying to figure out a good basic setup and riding it like that for awhile.

1 1/8' is the clamp diameter this is specific to the frame

stem length is specific to you, the bars you choose could influence the desired length as well, BUT, most 58 CM bikes come stock with at least a 110MM anything shorter looks dumb and will adversely effect steering response. DO A FIT! all will be revealed trust me.

don't forget you gotta match the front clamp on the stem to your handlebar (or vice versa) too...

So would an Uno SP-248 25mm Seat Post, 110mm VO Threadless Stem 25.4, +/-17 deg rise (40mm Quill Length/Clamp Height + Quill/Steerer Diameter 1 1/8" + Stem clamp diameter 25.4mm), and a Nitto B-115 Road - 25.4/42cm be compatible for my bike? I think I might be understanding this stuff a little better now. Would I need a shim with this set up?

if clamp dia and bar dia match then you don't need a shim pick a stem you like or bar you like and match em up it's really that simple

27.2 is your seattube dia, I am certain and the pic of the other kids masi with the EA70C post vilifies my hunch because it's the smallest diameter Easton makes in the model.

WHY DONT YOU DO THE FIT?! ... figure out what stem length is recommended for YOU.

what you are asking is sorta like asking a shoe salesmen to tell you what size shoe you wear and refusing to let him measure your foot.

Sorry. I saw somewhere else just before about the seatpost also being 27.2mm so that seems to work. For the stem measurement, from where to where do you actually measure to come up with the proper size?

Dude, just go into a bike shop. They exist for this very reason.

The closest bicycle shop is almost an hour and a half away minimum from me. Is there a proper way to measure it with a measuring tape? I have another threadless steering stem at home and would measure that one to compare the length size.
