Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

December 21, 2012. Hipsters will take up running. Vintage Nike prices will skyrocket and Craigslist will be flooded with $50 Kilo TTs.

Trends tend to show that fads like bmx and skateboards tend to last 7-8 years then dwindle away. I really hope walking places isn't the next trend, cause that's way too slow a means of transportation to pick up on. Hoverboards would be a far better trend

As long as there are people who like doing things the hard way for the fun of it and people who like doing things the simple way for the simplicity of it, there will be fixed gear bicycles. They will always be in style in some social groups and out of style in others.

The question is: When is the New York Times going to stop sending slightly out-of-touch reporters to the "streets" to report about them?

I remember talking about this in 05. I thought it was going to happen like 3 years ago.

I thought everyone had moved to bedazzling axes now. Guess I should pay more attention.

Well I just bought a SS/FG. I state that I am not a hipster. I bought it for the simplicity of the bike, and because this area is flat as a pnacake.

The scene may be "dying or dead" to some people on the internet who think they're awesome, but when I can count on one hand the people who ride track bikes at my university of 15,000, I don't really think the scene has died.

For clarification, what I'm trying to say is, no matter how many blogs there are, this thing hasn't really gone mainstream yet. Single speed maybe, but fixed gear?
