Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Does W have sons? It's sad really, if they invested half of what was spent on the war on alt fuels we would need to be there. Ahh short sidedness, the american way.

BTW sorry for the hijack

I was google'n around for shoes the other day and found these

https://www.zappos.com/n/p/p/7129290.html
https://www.zappos.com/n/p/p/123877.html

Apparently they've "re-issued" some "cycling-inspired" shoes. I wonders if they are actually good for cycling...

:Bike messengers embody the individuality, style and athleticism that is synonomous with our brand," said Barney Waters, PUMA North America, Marketing Director.

That is my favorite quote in the article. Maybe its not true all over, but the messengers I know in philly Smoke and Drink like there is no tomorrow.... way to be athletic. I think I am going to go buy some Pumas and shoot up in the alley.

There were 8 weeks of elimination racing at the Kissisisismsisms velodrome to decide the team. I'm surprised you guys hadn't heard about it! The team captain Squid is also the president of the NYBMA and head organizer of the CMWC 2005. If you like fixie competitions then you'll wnat to attend the CMWC this year. It's expected to be the largest in history with close to 2000 riders attending, about half will be fixed. https://www.nybma.com/cmwc2005/
As far as corporate sponsorship goes...if someone offered you a custom bike, travel and accomodations, a chance to race pro teams on their turf, and future financial support for your organization, well...hehe.

Consider that in NYC and some other cities bike messengers are an industry not just a cult. Any form of power that can be used as leverage for the working messenger will be used to it's best advantage. For instance in the past some companies would require uniforms that you had to buy yourself to work there. The company I ride for will have uniforms soon rather than a dress code, but thanks to our collective bargaining power and that several of the guys on our board are senior messengers they know better than to try and force them on us, they're not mandatory, won't come out of my pocket and I'll get $3.00 to wear them. That's not much, but it's free jerseys and $3 a day, $15 a week, $60 a month, $720 a year.

Did I mention CMWC?

Oh yeah

GO TO CMWC!!

gotta see bad to be bad! come race!

Hey, it's just like any other pro sports. Someone says they're gonan hook you up with gear, money, and travel to play a sport that you like. Who turns that down? Plus Puma is looking for that rebel image, so you don't even have to worry about being all straight and clean-cut. Sounds like a deal to me.

I think the guy at trackstar said that they might be the ones who build the HPR here next year, so... can't be all bad.

i, for one, am excited about puma making cycling shoes.

i used to only wear pumas, but then they discontinued my favorite shoe, so i had to buy vans, and within 2 months the left shoe developed a huge gash on the inside for no reason at all. the only thing that ever wore out on the pumas was the soles. i was thinking about getting some orchid shoes, but maybe i'll wait for these pumas to come out.

i'd do it also; wouldn't have to consider it even for a moment.

I just think that marketing/sales people are a necessary evil and I ridicule them whenever I get the chance.

IF I'm correct in my thinking, Puma used to make cycling shoes way back when. Hence the cycling-inspired shoes that they have on the market now. I like Puma.
