I know I'm a 38. The size 40 Dickies are crazy small.

I have noticed the inconsistent fit. Thanks I'll check Nashbar and buy a pair of Red Kaps and try them.

Reasons I like Dickies better than Red Kap: Odd sizes.

Srsly, 30 is way too small and my twin brother and I could both fit in a single pair of 32's. 31? Perfection. If only the 874's were a tad slimmer. Whatevs, they're cheap and I have a sewing machine. May have to try this knickers/shants/capris/high-waters/dude-pris/cut-offs thing sometime, 'cept it looks goofy.

Cheers

Red Kap is true to actual size, which is what throws a lot of people off. Know your real measurements before ordering.

Seriously, they last forever. As mentioned before, I have a few pairs that are older than some members of this forum.

I can see the advantage of having a high hem so you dont have to roll up your right pant leg but other than that, what advantage do knickers have over either shorts or pants?

'Coolness', surely. Never underestimate the Cool Factor.

Ink up a few tribal tats, hang some metal bits on your ears and slip on your knickers... you are transformed into an Urban Force of Nature.

Socks, though. Hmmm, socks become the next concern....

One practical aspect is that they keep your knees warm yet don't suffer from chain chew.

While we're on the topic of pants, anyone tried the Levi's Commuter jeans? They seem like the they could either be awesome or just another shameless cash grab.

I'd have to agree with this - certainly no end of demographic research went into their conception. By all appearances, they were planned for a particular market, carefully price pointed to meet their approval. Can anyone say "young, urban hipsters?"
There is nothing wrong with that, of course - that's how the world goes around. They probably do a good job.

Personally, when it comes to urban riding pants, I prefer some sort of cargo britches. Actually, I prefer some sort of cargo britches most all the time.

I do like the idea of knickers, though, if nothing more than for their old-made-new appeal.

Based on what is presently available on the market, there is definitely a market for a 'cycling jean,' and for the most part Levi's pretty much matched the existing options. Aside from the price, it's certainly no game changer, but at least people who would like a 'cycling jean' don't have to spend a ton of money for jeans from Swrve, Rapha, or Cadence.

Heres a side of it that I dont see. Im not in a 'hipster friendly,' urban cycling environment. The sort of people that this particular kind of thing appeals to arent here and no place catering to them exists - unless you cont the GAP. So the market isn't something I see in action.
Much the same can be said of knickers. But in an odd sort of way, I could cut a trend with those.

I can definitely understand how they really wouldn't be necessary. I don't own a pair yet--but when the rain season hits San Francisco I may just change my mind...

Well, a $2 pair of used work pants, cut off knicker style and hemmed, handily beats $20. And let us not forget the cost of shipping....
If you really want to keep it down, don't hem 'em. For pure economic stimulation, that ought to do it.

But those Nashbar knickers are a sweet deal when it comes to store bought frillery. Damn, I love Nashbar!

Glad to see Nashbar restocked the c-pant. My pair got cut up when I got hit by a car a few months back. Just copped 2 more pairs. I like them better than Swrve because Swrve knickers are too tight in the thighs.

I hate my Swrve knickers. Even when it's cold outside, they make my legs sweat like a mother****er.
