campmor has their rain poncho for ~$30-40. Though if you're over 6', I wouldn't recommend it as it's probably going to be too short to reach your bars as it was for me. Especially, if you wear a backpack under it.

The Nashbar rain jacket worked at keeping my top dry during before and during winter (while I was in Vancouver, WA). Real cheep too! Looks like they only have the large size right now tho.

Good ol Nashbar. How's the ventilation on that jacket?

I'm going to try Retrogression's Calv jacket next week to see if I overheat in it.

There's also this: https://www.realcyclist.com/cutter-rain-cutter-jacket

Lacking! There was perspiration underneath. But it still worked well. For extra ventilation I kept it partially open in the front and that helped. It was really great as a windbreaker when it was down in the 30's.

Yeah, I have a "rain jacket" I got from nashbar (I think it was blackbottoms as the brand though). No ventilation at all other than the front zip, so it's really only good if you're riding in sub-30's rain. Anything else and might as well take it off because you're getting soaked either way.

I use plastic booties on my socks inside my shoes, ITs a little hard to get into my shimano shoes, But i can get them in after a good 3 minute wrestle. But it never rains in La. When it does, Drivers are too stupid to look out for me.

I do like the cycling booties. Make sure you get actual waterproof ones, not ones that claim they are waterproof, are for the first 10 minutes of a ride, but then start to soak through.

They're not the easiest shoes to pedal in but for those who value dry feet;

Thirded on the Precip. Super lightweight and pretty packable. At least enough to squish up and toss into my bag without a thought. Pit zips are great as vents and somehow aren't giant gaps for falling rain, even when zipped all the way open to the ribs. Surprisingly durable, too, especially given how thin the fabric is— I took a nasty high-speed spill onto pavement + sand + gritty gravel with it on once, and the only ill effect besides a bruised ego was a centimeter long tear by the wrist cuff. (Which hasn't frayed any further in the last six months)

Totally recommended. Check eBay if you want a cheaper price. I got a never-used one for about half off. Only caveat was that it has a patch for a youth skiing organization on the chest, which I don't mind.

My only beef with my Precip is it's not so comfy when wearing short sleeves - the lining just doesn't feel so good against bare skin.

I've a similar Helly Hansen shell with a mesh liner that's much better in that regard.

I need to get myself a lightweight longsleeve jersey to go with the Precip.

I've gotten compliments on how cool it looks, too, for what it's worth.
