126mm->120mm conversion: To bend or not to bend?

I have an old bike with 126mm rear spacing and horizontal dropouts. I also have a 120mm suzue flip/flop hub.

It is easy to attach the flip/flop wheel to this frame and tighten the bolts. The 3mm gaps on boths sides go away and the wheel appears to be properly aligned.

My question is do I really need to bend the frame so the spacing is 120mm? Is it possible that I am slightly screwing up the wheel alignment?

Note:
Get REALLY drunk before cold-setting your frame. And use cinder blocks to meet your every whim and fancy in the process.

(can't you respace the axle to meet 126mm?)

Go down to either your LBS or the local hardware store and get 2 3mm spacers. Put one on either end of the axel and your problem is solved. I'm running a suzue on a 130mm spaced bike with spacers and no cold setting.

Q: I'm taking care of the same issue, and was wondering whether to put the "spacers" (washers) between the cones and locknuts (seems more secure) or between the locknut and the dropout (which it sounds like you were saying, Cynikal, but maybe I'm not reading between the lines).

Put the spacers between the cone and locknut. There's no reason to reset the frame unless you're anticipating using that wheel in a frame that's track spaced.

Sorry, should have put that part in. Put the spacers between the cone and lock nut. the lock nut has those groves that press into the drop out to secure it.

I am running my SA AW hub in a 126 frame and the axle is not long enough for spacers. I grab the stays in my left hand and bend them in to put the nuts on. No problems in a year so far. Perfect chainline too.
