Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Need a new bike, reccomendations?

hey folks, Ive been noticing a lot of indie frame manufacturers and was hoping for some reccomendations before I overlook anything. I need to buy a second bike, would like to spend under $1k, really under $700 if I can. Was looking at a langster pro (saw one cheap) , but really want a front brake. Was thinking about a langster, but have one already and want to change it up. Not into surly or bianchi, gonna try to check out the new KHS this week. The more Ive been looking, the more Ive been noticing small manufacturers so thought Id ask, there seem to be some knowledgable folks here. gonna also try to look at an Iro tomorrow too. Would love to find a used GT track frame but I ride a 52cm and finding small frames used is a real pain in the ass...

thanks!

thanks for all the replies folks!

Im really into my langster, like, a whole bunch. I definitely want to get another aluminum bike and a stiff one at that. Where some folks think squirrely is a bad thing, I see it as a positive just to give you some idea of where I am coming from. I dont ride on a track, but am addicted to the spring acceleration those frames can provide.

that said, Im currently leaning towards a leader frame. Ive beeen reading both good and bad here and other places, anyone have any experiences they can share with a leader built up SS or fixed? Id be just as happy buying another langster so value for the $$$ is going to play into my decision quite a bit.

Appreciate everyone's feedback, this seems to be a cool place with some level headed folks!

If you are looking for alu and track geometry I'd go with spicer. Really good and you can get a good deal.

I know you mentioned you're not into it, but the Bianchi Pista 05 edition is not that bad. I dig mine and ride on the road.

does anyone know a good shop in LA that could build up a spicer frame? cant seem to find any dealer info on the web for spicer.

Is there a shop in LA that caters to the SS/fixed crowd?
