Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Matching bar tape to this saddle...

Desired saddle: Concor

As you all know; online shopping can be difficult. I'd head into a LBS but most don't carry a wide selection. Suggestions \ links would be helpful. Thx.

There's a lot of brown leather bar tape out there that would look great. It just depends on how much you want to spend.

Brooks has holes in the bar tape and that might not exactly match the seat.
then again you get little, cute cork bar plugs! adorable!

There's also various shades of brown or tan cork, foam and synthetic tape that will look good with that saddle, if you prefer that.

Charge u bend looks like leather but not very expensive. Has little embossed charge logos on it so might not appeal to you.

Also fizik has a honey brown tape but it is extremely hard to find in the US. I have it on a set of bullhorns to match my charge saddle and had to order it from the UK. Several retailers have shipping pretty reasonable to the US so it'll still end up being a lot cheaper than some of the real leather tape

I used some Cinelli natural cork bar tape, then used amber shellac on it. It came out like this

That's a Brooks B17 in honey brown.

Where I lean on the bars, though, the shellac came off, revealing the natural cork color. Looks like well-worn leather. I should take a picture of that too.

Since I'm spending the money on myself price isn't an issue as long as the browns match up or match up close enough. Also; I'm looking for leather or faux leather.

Thx for the replies so far.

If the price is not an issue: you need custom bar tape. Pick your free-range animal of choice. Have it "prepared". Work with a respectable artisanal tannery to have the shade of the leather be matched Exactly to your seat color. Have Renzo Rosso distress the part where you lean on the bars (see Doohickie's note above, very cool). You will be satisfied and will even have some extra bar tape left to be sold at the Diesel stores (which most likely sells fixies by now).

...yes Diesel does sell fixies: http://mocoloco.com/fresh2/2011/01/2...-pinarello.php

Fizik Microtex in Brown: (Not sold in the states, though. You would probably have to order from a European store)

Plus two. I can't imagine a day when I'll be buying Brooks tape with no hesitation. Even if I was filthy rich. $70 can get you a lot of nice parts other than just bar tape.
