Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Opinions on color

I recently got one of these NOS for a very good price. I intend to mount a front brake so I can ride it in the street until open riding sessions startup at the track in the spring.

Like anyone else here, I want to customize my ride a little bit. (oh the huge vanity) The first (cheapest/simplest/whatever) thing I intend to do is re-wrap the bars. I have several rolls of Newbaum hemp bartape in orange, red, white, blue, and grey. I was thinking of doing a red/white harlequin wrap, but I thought a blue/white wrap combined with a pair of blue Gran Compe tires I have in my closet might nice look nice as well, but I'm not sure how tacky it would be next to the red saddle. (Not to mention the slight aire of "look how patriotic my bike is") Opinions? Am I just being too vain?

Most high brow hipsters will say you must match the saddle to the bar tape. I've heard tons of good reviews for DSP Lizardskin bar tape. I haven't tried it yet but I'd encourage you to check it out.
