People ride deep rims in CX for more stability in deep mud or sand.

Damn, I was just going to post that Alliance. It's perfect. No frills, just a really well executed bike with a nice, understated paint job and solid parts. That builder is definitely on my radar if I ever get a job that's not with a stingy nonprofit

No, not at all. NJS frames are not meant to be practical to me. I realize I'm paying for a stamp and some sweet paint, because similar riding frames can be had for so much cheaper..

The fact that that raced professionally, in Japan, by a world champion, is what makes it worth it to me.

As prestigious as it may sound; I'm pretty sure every time Mr. Worldchampion got on that bike, it was ridden to the ground, losing 3 years of useful life every time.

If I wanted a new NJS, I'd go through Panasonic's little whatever system. If I want a bike that means something to me, a bike that has a story, and a unique frame, I'll dream on.

Bike porn is meant to be ridden, absolutely. I would **** this frame up.

I fall, a lot. Like two, OTB, really hard (no broken bones), high speed wrecks since I started riding in August. I just actually dented my top tube, and I can see why people spend $50 on top-tube protector.

I prefer steel because the frames seem to be more resilient, and NJS are my favorite steel bikes.

What I am saying is, I would do my best to baby the frame, but I will not ride it like a *****. The fact that its performance is hindered because it has been ridden so hard by a professional is what makes it attractive to me. I would honestly take this frame over:

Not because of utility, but because I'm weird, and if I'm spending a luxurious amount on a frame, I want it to mean something to me. A pro used frame, even though inferior in pure performance, is something really cool to me.
