Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

So it is as silly asterisk and poor journalism?

The 83mpd effort was done without a pace vehicle and as far as I know, the paced record is much higher. It will be interesting to see if this "record" actually gets recorded anywhere.

Back to my original statement, the Sentinel is calling it a much more believable "British record for outright speed on a bicycle"

Read more: http://www.stokesentinel.co.uk/Bursl...#ixzz2p5nlXtL2

i think the original article is BS. It looks like they saw the speed and said "well that's faster than 83mph" and didn't do further research.

besides, who cares what powers the pace car/truck/train, it has no bearing on bike or rider other than providing a draft. For the record, it is also not a plain old truck. It is a truck built solely for racing...

Are stunt motorcyclists known for being fast on bicycles? This whole thing is fishy.

Not a big fan of the purple metal-flake with all those "lightning bolts". Looks out of place on the bike. Maybe in a different color.

The handlebars also look out of place. Maybe they provide some aerodynamic gain that I just can't understand.

Interesting.
